Role Description This is a 3-month contract role (35-40 hrs/week) to accelerate the maturity of Noom's design system. You'll build a token structure that works cleanly across platforms, prepare our design system for AI tools, and close the gap between what's designed in Figma and what's actually built in code. You Will: - Build and scale design systems in Figma at a senior/staff level, including components, variants, and token architecture. - Bring deep expertise in platform design standards (Material Design, Apple HIG, Liquid Glass) and know when to deviate. - Design token and component structures that translate cleanly into code. - Work with engineers on Code Connect, linking Figma components to their code counterparts. - Advise on structuring our design system so AI tools can use it reliably (docs, MD/JSON files). - Mentor designers on semantic tokens and proper component-building. - Advise on a governance model for versioning, contributing, and retiring system updates. - Guide how a brand refresh rolls through the token layer without rebuilding every component. Qualifications - Played a significant role in shipping, rebuilding, or advancing a large design system. - Deep hands-on experience with agentic design and what design system/brand gaps matter most for AI results. - Judgment on when Figma vs. code should be the source of truth, component by component. - Diagnosed and fixed real Figma-to-production inconsistencies. - Strong judgment on component architecture and token architecture (primitive, semantic, component-level), including light/dark and brand theming. - Experience helping a design team actually adopt a new system, not just document one. Requirements This is an hourly contractor role for an initial 3-month term with anticipated 35-40 hours/week. The hourly rate is expected to fall between $100-150/hour; market rates for contract roles vary by location, experience, and skill set. Compensation will be finalized during the hiring process. We can consider candidates remotely, with a preference for those in the NYC/NJ area who are available to work onsite periodically. Benefits - Your work directly shapes how millions of people experience a product built to help them build healthier habits. - You'll solve one of the most interesting emerging problems in design: making a design system legible and reliable for AI tools. - You'll shape governance and structure that outlasts your contract.
