This position plays a vital role in supporting the ramp-up of projects within the Large Generators Engineering PMO, requiring expert project management skills. As a Specialist Professional (P4), you will lead complex Research & Development and Mods & Upgrades projects that are critical to achieving Siemens Energy’s strategic objectives. The R&D Project Manager manages, with full responsibility, the scope, schedule and budget of Research & Development and Mods & Upgrades projects within the Large Generators Engineering organization. The role drives the development of products, solutions and/or services that need to be timely and competitive in the marketplace and/or drives research that ensures Siemens Energy’s technological lead position.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Engage partners to identify project scope and communicate requirements to project teams. Initiate the project in agreement with Product Management concerning the project targets and overall boundaries.
- Collaborate with Technical Leads and Resource Owners to create and track project plans in Microsoft Project & Concerto Critical Chain Client as well as manage the project throughout the Product Development Process (PDP) within the defined requirements. Hold full accountability for the delivery of the defined scope.
- Implement and complete the project within the approved boundaries (e.g., Product Requirements Specification / Product Design Specification, functionality, product target costs, project cost, time, quality, customer satisfaction) and lead the project execution. Coordinate multiple functions including engineering, business controlling, quality, supply chain, manufacturing and other interfaces as required.
- Ensure business success and customer satisfaction with professionalism. Identify project benchmarks, determine and manage an effective communication plan to report project status and forecast, while acting as the single point of contact for customer queries.
- Represent the project at regular project controlling and pipelining meetings to negotiate resource capacity & project priority and act as an entrepreneur throughout project execution by being proactive in finding opportunities or obstacles. Secure timely decisions on open issues, raising concerns if necessary.
- Balance the project scope through change request management and manage risk by devising suitable strategies for risk mitigation based on knowledge of business risk appetites.
- Coach, lead, and motivate the team, even when faced with unexpected challenges. Identify, recognize, and congratulate strong performances by the team, while acting upon areas for improvement.
What You Bring
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is required. An advanced degree, such as a Master’s in a relevant field, is considered a plus.
- 4+ years of experience in technical project management, ideally in an R&D or heavy engineering environment such as turbomachinery or power generation.
- Proficiency in project and process management, including project scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and familiarity with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies, as well as tools like Microsoft Project for effective project documentation and resource allocation.
- Strong skills in risk and asset management, including risk management, change management, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Excellent behavioral skills, including influencing abilities, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills to navigate complex project challenges effectively.
