Role Description Pearson's Career Ready portfolio helps state systems, institutions, and employers access workforce-aligned learning and certification programs. This role positions you as both the strategic architect and lead revenue driver of the Career Ready commercial strategy — understanding how states invest in career readiness, translating that into coordinated commercial strategy, and directly executing state-level sales and appropriations strategy with a $20M+ target. You will own a state funding portfolio across the country and lead a team of government affairs and implementation managers who execute on state strategy. You will meet directly with state leadership, build and renew critical relationships, manage government affairs resources and lobbyists, and drive adoption and revenue growth across your portfolio. What You Will Do - This is a sales and execution role grounded in strategic expertise. - Develop and own market, policy, and state-level strategy while leading a team and directly driving revenue through state appropriations and funding mechanisms. - Carry quota responsibility for $20M+ in state funding and own key state relationships. State Revenue Leadership & Strategy Execution - Own a portfolio of strategic states and carry quota responsibility for securing $20M+ in state appropriations, grants, and other state funding mechanisms. - Meet directly with state education leadership, governors' offices, and appropriations officials; develop and renew key relationships; lead contract negotiations and manage government affairs resources. - Conduct research and analysis of state trends, budget priorities, and legislative activity to identify funding opportunities and inform commercial priorities. - Develop integrated state strategy frameworks that connect state priorities, funding mechanisms, regulatory requirements, and commercial opportunity into coordinated go-to-market plays. - Lead state certification placements and ensure Pearson offerings are positioned competitively in state procurement and funding decisions. Government Affairs, Policy, and Team Leadership - Direct and align the strategy of Pearson's government affairs teams to ensure state-level awareness, policy alignment, and budgetary support for our priorities. - Oversee advocacy initiatives and public policy campaigns that shape state environments favorably for product adoption and funding flow. - Manage and develop a team of government affairs and implementation managers; set performance expectations, provide coaching, and build a high-performing state affairs team. - Work cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, and Revenue Operations to ensure go-to-market support and operations alignment. Qualifications - 10+ years of progressive experience in state government affairs, education policy, budget strategy, or related commercial roles combining policy expertise and proven commercial impact. - Direct experience securing K-12 state funding (appropriations, grants, federal passthrough) — ideally for CTE, workforce development, or career pathway initiatives. K-12 state funding expertise is essential. - Proven track record of owning and closing significant state-level deals and partnerships with direct accountability for revenue. - Success building and renewing long-term relationships with state education officials, governors' staff, appropriations leaders, and key state decision-makers. - Deep understanding of state education systems, K-12 workforce development, state budget processes, appropriations mechanisms, and funding pathways. - Demonstrated success managing and developing sales or government affairs teams. - Strong analytical and strategic thinking; excellent written and verbal communication skills with C-suite executives and state officials. - Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Business, Education, Economics, or related field. Preferred Qualifications - Extensive K-12 education, CTE, or workforce development sector background. - Experience in professional services, consulting, or EdTech with proven state-focused go-to-market success. - Track record of multi-state appropriations strategy and competitive pursuit of state funding. - Experience managing government affairs resources, lobbyists, and outside consultants. - Sales leadership background in education with quota-carrying experience. - Graduate degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Education, or related field. Who Thrives in This Role You are motivated by closing deals and owning revenue results. You love understanding how policy shapes markets and funding flows. You build genuine relationships with state officials based on credibility and authenticity. You have worked in K-12 state education funding environments and understand how state money actually flows to schools. You operate effectively in ambiguity while maintaining rigor. You influence without direct authority and move fast without sacrificing thinking or relationship-building. You bring strategic urgency and high standards to team leadership. Compensation Compensation at Pearson is influenced by factors including skill set, experience, and location. The full-time salary range for this role is $170,000 - $190,000. This position is eligible to participate in Pearson’s sales incentive plan. Application Information Applications will be accepted through 8/7/26. This window may be extended depending on business needs. Equal Opportunity Employer Pearson is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a member of E-Verify. • Enable developers to go from install to a working GraphRAG app in under 30 minutes • Create reference applications and sample repositories solving real problems • Publish benchmarks and acknowledge strengths and weaknesses • Engage through technical posts, talks, workshops • Serve as a link between developers and product team delivering specific feedback
• Start from the pain point, not the product: pick the DevOps/developer problems teams hit most often, then build the working solution and the narrative around it, before deciding what format it becomes • Build forkable, production-realistic pipeline templates and code samples (CI, CD, GitOps, feature flags) that developers can clone and adapt directly, not superficial demos • Own the "zero to first pipeline run" self-serve paths for our flagship products, and validate them by having real, unassisted users run through them • Record short technical walkthroughs and live coding demos of real CI/CD workflows on Harness • Own the example-repo strategy: the canonical, maintained source of truth • Keep every sample and tutorial working as the product changes, i.e., stale examples cost more trust than no examples • Show up in developer communities (GitHub Discussions, Discord, relevant subreddits) and understand developer pain points and answer real questions first, turn the best ones into content second • Be the technical sign-off on content produced elsewhere on the team. If a use case or demo is wrong, you're the one who catches it before it publishes
• Activate high-intent signups: follow up on trial and developer-tier signups routed by the Growth team, prioritizing ICP-fit enterprise trials; help them get an SDK live, find the right resources, and reach real usage, with clear coverage and response commitments for every routed lead. • Help first, always: outreach means solving problems (a stuck install, the right tutorial, a working example in their stack), personalized to what each team is actually doing and never pushy. • Build a public voice: create tutorials, videos, and posts under your own name, so when you reach out, developers recognize a helpful practitioner instead of a cold email • Make the payoff obvious: create first-success content and run sessions and office hours that show customers the outcome they're working toward, and what the platform does beyond flags: experimentation, observability, guarded releases, and AI Configs • Multiply yourself with AI: build AI-assisted workflows for outreach, next-step suggestions, and usage analysis so meaningful help reaches every signup, not just the routed ones; stay engaged with the results rather than automating and walking away. • Feed the loop: report back on what’s working, where activation stalls, and which signals actually predict success, so Growth and Product can tune targeting, scoring, and onboarding • Hand off cleanly: stay focused on helping people. Route sales conversations, support escalations, and product issues to the teams who own them
Helping every child on Earth get an education they love

Evaluate emerging technologies thoughtfully and help establish patterns that improve outcomes while maintaining security, reliability, and engineering quality. • Partner deeply across engineering: Work closely with product engineering, infrastructure, security, and technical leaders to understand pain points, prioritize opportunities, and build platform capabilities that solve real problems. • Create trusted paved paths: Build reusable tools, automation, documentation, and self-service capabilities that become the preferred way engineers work because they're intuitive, reliable, and genuinely useful. • Measure impact: Use engineering metrics, developer feedback, and adoption data to continuously improve the developer experience. Focus on meaningful outcomes rather than activity metrics. • Help build Developer Experience Engineering: As an early member of the team, contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, and the long-term evolution of Developer Experience Engineering at ClassDojo.
