Role Description
We are seeking a motivated Associate – Tax Credits (R&D) to join our growing Tax Credits practice. This role is ideal for an early-career tax professional with 1–3 years of public accounting experience who is interested in developing specialized expertise in Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credits, accounting methods, cost recovery, and technical tax consulting.
Working alongside experienced Managers and Partners, you will gain valuable exposure to sophisticated client engagements, technical tax research, and consulting projects while building the foundation for long-term career growth within a highly specialized practice.
Key Responsibilities

Tax Credits & Technical Analysis

Assist in preparing federal and state R&D tax credit studies and supporting analyses.

Gather, organize, and analyze client financial and operational information to identify potential qualifying activities and expenditures.

Assist with documenting tax credit calculations and preparing supporting workpapers.

Research tax law, IRS guidance, and legislative developments affecting tax credit opportunities.

Support engagement teams with IRS examination responses and documentation requests.

Accounting Methods & Cost Recovery

Assist with accounting method reviews involving capitalization, depreciation, revenue recognition, and inventory accounting.

Support cost segregation and depreciation analyses.

Assist with preparation of Form 3115 (Application for Change in Accounting Method).

Perform technical tax research involving the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, and other authoritative guidance.

Prepare draft technical memoranda and engagement documentation for manager review.

Client Service

Communicate professionally with clients to obtain information, answer questions, and provide timely updates.

Support Managers and Partners on tax planning and consulting engagements.

Assist with client deliverables while maintaining quality, organization, and attention to detail.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines.

Team Collaboration

Collaborate closely with Managers, Senior Associates, and Partners on client engagements.

Participate in internal technical training and continuing education programs.

Contribute ideas that improve engagement efficiency and client service.

Continue developing technical expertise through mentorship and hands-on experience.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

1–3 years of public accounting experience, preferably in tax.

Experience working in a public accounting firm.

CPA license or active progress toward CPA licensure strongly preferred.

Exposure to federal and state tax compliance and tax research.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Experience using tax preparation software (CCH experience preferred but not required).

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Requirements

Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field (preferred).

Exposure to R&D tax credits, accounting methods, cost recovery, or tax consulting (preferred).

Familiarity with Form 3115, cost segregation, or depreciation concepts (preferred).

Experience preparing technical research memoranda or supporting client consulting engagements (preferred).
