Job Description
Manager/Director of Product Marketing
Runway
Role Description We are building AI to simulate the world through merging art and science. We believe that world models are at the frontier of progress in artificial intelligence. Language models alone won’t solve the world’s hardest problems – robotics, disease, scientific discovery. Real progress requires models that experience the world and learn from their mistakes, the same way that humans do. And this kind of trial and error can be massively accelerated when done in simulation, rather than in the real world. World models offer the most clear path to general-purpose simulation, changing how stories are told, how scientific progress is made and how the next frontiers of humanity are reached. Our team consists of creative, open minded, caring and ambitious people who are determined to change the world. We aspire to continuously build impossible things and our ability to do so relies on building an incredible team. If you are driven to do the same, we'd love to hear from you. About the role - Preferable to have someone near one of our offices in NYC or San Francisco, but open to hiring around the world for the right candidate. - Runway ships extremely fast across three distinct businesses: - Runway Creative, an all-in-one platform giving creators and enterprises endless ways to generate and edit video, images, and audio; - Runway Dev, giving developers access to the best media models and experiences through an enterprise-grade platform; - Runway Robotics, a complete toolkit for frontier robotics companies to train and control robots. - We’re hiring a founding product marketer to own that story. This is a rare mandate: define how Runway is positioned across all three businesses, and build the launch and enablement systems that let a furiously fast team ship without marketing becoming a bottleneck. - You'll start deeply hands-on as the primary PMM across the company, and build and lead a team over time as the function scales. This is a builder's role and you'll be defining and standing up the discipline. What You'll Do - Own Runway's positioning. - Partner with the co-founders and exec leadership team to define company and product positioning across Creative, Dev, and Robotics. - Own the content and positioning of Runway's marketing properties and launches, ensuring our story is sharp, consistent, and reflective of Runway’s ambitious brand. - Build the product launch operating system. - Design a system that keeps up: a launch tiering model, clear cross-functional expectations, and a tight, repeatable path from "PM says it's ready" to "announcement is live the next day." - Drive competitive intelligence and response. - Track and deeply understand the key players across all three markets: creative tools, developer/inference platforms, and robotics. - Turn your market understanding into a living point of view on where we win, where we're exposed, and how we respond, and make it legible to product and leadership. - Enable GTM teams. - Stand up a lightweight product enablement process so sales, partnerships, and support always have current, credible messaging, positioning, and proof points. - Ship, hands-on. - Write the positioning, the launch narratives, and the enablement materials yourself. - Talk to customers and the field regularly. You'll be in the details daily. - Build the team. - Start as the primary hands-on driver for product marketing company-wide, then hire and lead a team as the function grows. - You’ll raise the bar on craft and speed as you scale. Qualifications - 7+ years in product marketing, including time leading PMM for technical or fast-moving products at meaningful scale. - A track record of positioning and launches that moved the business, not just shipped assets. - Exceptional positioning and narrative craft. - You can take research concepts and technical products and make them land. - You create sharp written arguments, compelling launch stories, and messages that a discerning audience trusts. - You know what great looks like and you can write it yourself. - You thrive in an environment with rapid pace and a high accountability culture. - You move very fast, make decisions with incomplete information, and instinctively gravitate toward shipping today (not writing docs for tomorrow). - A systems builder. - You've designed launch and enablement processes from scratch (eg: tiering, cross-functional rituals, fast-turnaround workflows) that lowered friction for the teams shipping, rather than adding gates. - Sharp competitive instincts. - You track markets closely, form a real point of view on where to win, and translate it into product and messaging decisions. - Range across audiences. - Comfortable marketing to creators, developers, and enterprise buyers alike. - You’re quick to get credible in a new domain like robotics. - Excellent written and verbal communication. - You confidently assess the state of the business, call out challenges, and articulate your plans to solve them. Benefits - Runway strives to recruit and retain exceptional talent from diverse backgrounds while ensuring pay equity for our team. - Our salary ranges are based on competitive market rates for our size, stage and industry, and salary is just one part of the overall compensation package we provide. - There are many factors that go into salary determinations, including relevant experience, skill level and qualifications assessed during the interview process, and maintaining internal equity with peers on the team. - The range shared below is a general expectation for the function as posted, but we are also open to considering candidates who may be more or less experienced than outlined in the job description. - In this case, we will communicate any updates in the expected salary range. - Lastly, the provided range is the expected salary for candidates in the U.S. Outside of those regions, there may be a change in the range, which again, will be communicated to candidates. Company Description Great things come from great teams. We’d love to hear from you. We’re committed to creating a space where our employees can bring their full selves to work and have equal opportunity to succeed. So regardless of race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, origin, ability, age, veteran status, if joining this mission speaks to you, we encourage you to apply.
