Senior Accountant

• Prepares community financial statements and assists in the role of externally reporting the financial results of the company. • Maintains the integrity of the general ledger by applying generally accepted accounting principles to all transactions. • Assists and trains less experienced accountants. • Completes balance sheet account reconciliations and bank account reconciliations by the established due dates. Researches and resolves reconciling items in a timely manner. • Reviews cost center and chart of account structures. Makes recommendations as to cost center/account structure that will identify the nature of expenses to their proper area; assists in controlling annual expenditures and streamlines the data processing support required during month-end. • Prepares, verifies, and controls the entering of journal entries to the general ledger. • Evaluates subsidiary journals for obvious errors and omissions and enters corrected data into the general ledger, i.e., enters monthly journal entries, executes monthly closing entries, executes month-end general ledger (by cost center and by natural account). • Reviews monthly balance sheet and profit-and-loss statements for accuracy. • Coordinates monthly closing and production of statements to guarantee timely reporting. • Reviews, redesigns, and enhances the on-line financial statements to ensure that the information reported properly reflects the company's financial position. • Reviews and updates monthly closing procedures. • Reviews supporting subsidiary schedules to ensure that the company's accounting practices are being maintained, i.e., insurance, fixed assets, amortization of prepaid; makes recommendations. • Ensures all processes are appropriately documented and assists in the on-going documentation of accounting policies and procedures. • Prepares audit schedules and responds to auditor requests during financial audits, SOX audits or any other audit. • Monitors and tracks cash outflows. Provides necessary updates to management. • Interacts with field personnel. Provides exceptional customer service in explaining and responding to questions regarding monthly operating activity, investigating variances, providing detail of charges and booking re-class entries. • Corresponds with third party financial institutions and regulatory bodies.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university plus three to five years related experience.
  • Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department.
  • Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness or a combination of these.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment.
  • Has a working knowledge of a functional discipline.

This role sits at the heart of GoFundMe's platform, a fast-moving, high-volume, multi-currency payments environment. Our Senior Revenue Accountant reports to the Revenue Accounting Manager and will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of revenue recognition across millions of transactions, overseeing our monthly close, and scaling our transactional revenue processes. You will partner with cross-functional teams, including Payments, Finance, Tax and Data, to strengthen controls, drive automation, and directly influence how GoFundMe manages its payment processing economics. - Manage the month-end and quarter-end close activities including preparation of high-volume transactional revenue journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and flux analyses. - Lead the design, scaling, and continued automation of transactional revenue accounting, including revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and contra-revenue across GoFundMe’s global payments infrastructure. - Assist with monthly and quarterly revenue financial reporting packages by preparing supporting schedules tied to transactional activity. - Prepare and analyze payment processor interchange pricing models and present findings and recommendations related to cost savings. - Monitor and reconcile high-volume, multi-currency payment flows across multiple payment processors, identifying anomalies and ensuring accuracy of transaction-level revenue data. - Support cross-functional teams (Payments, Finance, Tax, Data, etc) in the development of standard operating procedures as they impact the revenue process and top line results and ensure that all revenue impacting activities are identified and assessed for revenue recognition implications. - Assist with the global and stat audits by preparing supporting audit workpapers and schedules. - Assist with new system implementations and integrations by preparing use cases and user testing, with a focus on payment and transaction processing systems. - Assist in the development and implementation of controls over transactional-level data used for revenue reporting. - Track and review revenue related contracts to ensure revenue implications are documented and in compliance with the company’s revenue policy. - Assist in ad-hoc analyses and projects across various teams. Qualifications - 3–4 years of experience in public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier); combination of public accounting experience plus 1 year of industry experience at a fintech or payments company preferred. - B.A. or B.S. in Accounting - CPA or equivalent is preferred. - Breadth of experience in US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance. - Basic experience researching, documenting, and communicating technical accounting matters. - Expert Excel knowledge is required (record sets >1M rows). - Experience working with databases and SQL across standard commercial databases or ability to learn, is required. - Experience with Looker or similar BI tools is a strong plus. - Excellent problem-solving skills and experience analyzing high volume, multi-currency transactions in a global business environment. - Ability to work meticulously and maintain a high level of accuracy. - Strong interpersonal and team building skills - ability to work with a diverse team and impart change across functional and business boundaries. - Enjoy a fast-paced ever-changing environment where contributions make an immediate difference.
