Your next role: In this role you will support the Senior Graphic Designer on designing client-facing deliverables (e.g. technical reports, published documents, presentations, competition entries, proposals). Assignments may range from designing a single image within a deliverable, to working on the deliverable as a whole. Common tasks include developing 2D/3D technical illustrations, renderings, diagrams, data visualizations, infographics, icons, branded presentations, document templates, and beyond. Alongside the Senior Graphic Designer, you will be guiding the creative direction of deliverables and providing storyboarding services to technical teams. Identifying opportunities for visualization in text-heavy documents and propose improvements to narrative communication. You will creatively apply Buro Happold’s brand guidelines to deliverables. If assignment requires, you will apply clients’ brand guidelines or develop a bespoke visual identity. The Junior Graphic Designer will carefully consider the audience for each deliverable and challenge content that may not be relevant to that audience. Offer support in developing company-wide resources that empower engineers/consultants to create their own graphics. (e.g. image libraries) as well as support on both projects and business development efforts as needed. Your skills and experience: - 1+ years of relevant professional experience - Bachelor’s degree in a field emphasizing visual communication - such as graphic design, information design, architecture, industrial design—or commensurate work experience. - Knowledge of the architectural industry/built environment would be valuable - Proficient knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop - Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel - Knowledge of CAD Software (e.g. Rhino, 3ds Max, AutoCAD, Revit) would be preferable - Data Visualization Skills (using Tableau, Excel, or other methods) - Demonstrated mastery of design principles such as typography, color, and composition - Knowledge and/or a willingness to learn AI softwares would be valuable - Ability to work with a range of teams and communication styles using organizational and problem-solving skills - Careful listener – can identify a narrative in rough sketches/drafts from engineers and propose the best way to communicate that story. - Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they don't meet all requirements What we offer: - Compensation range between $32-36 hourly. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Manage the daily administration of Design Core Detroit's business programs, including but not limited to registration and payments, reporting, membership onboarding, updates, event planning, and materials. - Recruit and retain design businesses into the Detroit Design Network; deliver member benefits, manage member and event communications. - Provide technical assistance and coaching to Detroit Design Network members, as requested. This may include coaching on small business operations, production, promotion, management and more. - Provide technical assistance to future design clients, regarding drafting a scope of work, establishing realistic milestones, deliverables and budgets for design projects, etc. - Initiating and planning workshops and public events, including management of registration, attendance, follow up communication, and oversight of internal post event processing, i.e. add attendees to mailing list, send and collect surveys, report metrics, etc. - Create a weekly membership newsletter, which may include gathering current and relevant events and information, formatting content for presentation and performance for email and mobile devices, and more. - Manage and audit the digital Designer Directory on the Design Core website.
