Senior UX Designer
Energy ExemplarIn an era where the world is rapidly advancing towards a cleaner future through decarbonization, Energy Exemplar’s mission lies in ‘Empowering Transformative Energy Decisions’🪫☀️🍃 Founded in 1999 in Adelaide, Australia, our award-winning software portfolio encompassing the modeling and simulation platform PLEXOS®, Aurora, and Adapt2, is trusted by innovative organizations across the globe. Through our technology and people, we strive to enable stakeholders from across the entire energy value chain to revolutionize the energy ecosystem and to collaboratively plan and execute for a sustainable energy future with unprecedented clarity, speed, and innovation.
Role Description We are looking for a Senior UX Designer who brings deep craft, genuine curiosity about energy systems, and hands-on experience building AI-native products. This is not a traditional enterprise UX role; you will be shaping how energy analysts, grid planners, and market traders interact with complex simulation data and intelligent tools. You will work alongside product managers, engineers, and domain experts to design experiences for one of the most consequential industries in the world. The right candidate is deeply skilled in UX fundamentals and heuristics, comfortable operating at the intersection of AI, complex data visualization, and energy/power domain workflows, and actively uses AI tools and vibe-coding as part of their design practice. What You Will Do - Own end-to-end UX for complex, data-intensive features across PLEXOS, Aurora, Adapt2, and PLEXOS Intelligence, from discovery through delivery and iteration. - Apply UX heuristics and principles rigorously: cognitive load reduction in dashboards, simulation builders, and results visualization. - Design AI-native user experiences: including conversational interfaces, AI copilot features, intelligent recommendations, and human-in-the-loop workflows within energy modeling platforms. - Use vibe-coding actively in your workflow: leverage tools like Figma Make, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI coding assistants to rapidly prototype and iterate on interactive design concepts, reducing the gap between idea and testable artifact. - Conduct user research with domain experts and customers: interview grid planners, energy traders, regulatory analysts, and system operators to extract mental models and design for expert users with specialized workflows. - Define and evolve the design system: maintain component libraries, interaction patterns, and design tokens across products to ensure consistency and scalability in Figma and implementation. - Translate data into intuitive visualizations: design charts, scenario comparison views, time-series dashboards, and workflows. - Partner cross-functionally: collaborate with engineering, data science, product, and customer success to ensure designs are technically feasible, user-validated, and business-aligned. - Champion design quality and UX maturity: conduct design reviews, run usability testing sessions, present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders, and contribute to a culture of craft within the product team. Qualifications - 5–8 years of UX design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design, research, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design. Expert in Figma. - Deep working knowledge of UX heuristics and principles: Can apply these to critique and justify design decisions. - Hands-on experience with AI design and coding tools: Actively uses tools such as Figma Make, Claude, GitHub Copilot, Lovable, or similar to prototype, iterate, and build interactive concepts faster. - Experience designing complex data visualizations: dashboards, time-series charts, scenario comparison tools, and simulation outputs for expert B2B users. - Has designed AI-native product features: copilots, intelligent automation, generative UI, or recommendation systems. Understands how to design for model uncertainty, errors, and trust-building in AI interfaces. - Skilled in user research: planning and conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing, and synthesis into actionable design decisions. - Proven experience building or maintaining component libraries and design systems in Figma, including design tokens, variants, auto-layout, and engineering handoff. Preferred Qualifications - Background in designing cloud-native SaaS platforms for technical or domain-expert users. - Front-end literacy: can read and write basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Comfortable collaborating closely with engineers and understanding technical implementation constraints. - Exposure to energy market concepts is preferred. What Great Looks Like - You open Figma Make or Claude and spin up an interactive prototype in an afternoon, not to replace design, but to validate ideas faster. - You find complex data interesting, and you know exactly how to make it legible without dumbing it down. - You have strong opinions about AI UI anti-patterns and have designed experiences that make AI assistance feel trustworthy, not intrusive. - You treat UX heuristics not as a checklist, but as a shared language for better design conversations with non-designers. Benefits - Mission-driven work: your designs will influence how energy markets are planned and operated globally, supporting the transition to clean energy. - AI-forward product culture: we invest in PLEXOS Intelligence and actively explore AI capabilities across the product suite; you will be at the forefront of this. - Collaborative, global team: work with colleagues across the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia in a fast-growing, tight-knit environment. - Learning and growth: access to domain training via Energy Exemplar's Xpert platform, conference attendance, and mentorship from product and engineering leaders.
• Create professional and visually appealing designs based on provided concepts and ideas. • Develop engaging written content aligned with the brand direction. • Collaborate closely with the team to execute creative ideas effectively. • Deliver creative assets within agreed timelines. • Ensure all designs and content maintain a consistent and professional brand identity.
