Role Description The Software Engineer II role is responsible for building the tools that power our freight platform. The Engineer II has a passion for tackling hard problems and knows how to get things done while future-proofing our architecture and implementations to scale for years to come. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, design, roadmap, and development of all systems at U.S. Xpress. Position Functions: - Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security. - Own the development lifecycle with a focus on developing new features and functionalities for assigned software applications. - Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables. - Write high quality distributed system software. - Work in an agile development environment, always working on the most important projects. - Collaborate with other teams and across departments to deliver new features and products. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 3 years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of relevant professional experience required. - Experience with at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Go or C#) and unit testing. - Experience in debugging in shell and AWS. - Experience with AWS services (IAM, S3, Dynamo). - Previous experience in mentoring junior engineers or leading small tasks within a team. - Previous experience in creating technical documentation. - Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plus.
