Summary of Position This role is for an individual contributor and will focus on technical leadership of embedded electronic design and product development lifecycle for our product roadmap. The successful candidate will have experience in analog and digital embedded design, including both hardware (schematic capture and PCB layout) and firmware (C and ASM), preferably in consumer products or similar. The role would need to collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the product electrical and firmware architecture, work with contract manufacturers and global electrical engineering team to implement the designs while conducting the timely reviews with broader team and monitoring the progress. Role requires familiarity with all product development aspects such as team task tracking, BOM cost tracking, DFMEA, documentation and PLM systems. Role Functions: - Oversee the design and development of consumer products from initial concept to production within our global EE organization - Day-to-day coordination of team tasks to enable the delivery of functional prototypes for research and internal review - Collaborate with Engineering and Product Marketing teams to provide initial cost estimates for EBOM and work effort to support advanced development and prototype needs, as well as final product implementation based upon thorough review of product requirements - Define product electrical and firmware architecture as an input for the contract manufacturers and global teams - Work with compliance team and ensure that the product meets global certification standards for consumer electronics - Ensure the development of clear and concise firmware and hardware specifications/ documentation and solutions to meet product requirements - Interact with team members from other disciplines to complete project deliverables, solve problems - Work with global EE leadership to report the project status, review, meet and update the organizational objectives - Be able to lead and mentor junior engineers and technologists. Requirements - BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) - Minimum of 5+ years' experience in a technical leadership role involving the design, development and delivery of embedded hardware and firmware projects - Experience in aspects of electrical design: component selection, system architecture, design verification and documentation - Experience of delivering products while meeting Design for Manufacturability, testability and reliability guidelines. - Experience in the development of embedded firmware of microcontrollers, including design, test and debugging. - Experience of resolving compliance testing and EMI/EMC issue through methodical RCA. - Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and the ability to "find order in chaos". - Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment - Ability to work with minimal supervision or guidance - A broad view and understanding of the product development process, and effective experience leading multi-disciplined team efforts in the evolution of products from concept through testing, verification and approval - Solid analytical skills with a strong attention to detail - Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with good sound interpersonal skills Desirable: - Familiarity with compilers, IDE's, JIRA, SVN is a plus - Previous industry experience working for a consumer product company or a consultant company in the consumer goods space is highly desirable. The Electrical Engineer will execute electrical designs ranging from small, single year projects to multi-year government projects in extreme winter environments for three (3) Antarctic stations plus additional field camps. The mission support program is currently in the early stages of a planned 10-year upgrade program to transform one station, in addition undertake planned projects to upgrade and sustain other existing stations, facilities, infrastructure and services at all locations of the program. The Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) program team is based in Centennial, Colorado and funded by the United States National Science Foundation (NSF). The Electrical Engineer is responsible for working as part of the Engineering team designing and coordinating safe, technically accurate, and cost effective power distribution and electrical systems designs and deliverables for station facilities and lodging. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of engineering deliverables that comply with applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Utilize engineering technology to accomplish work and continuously improve work processes to meet program needs. *** Deployment to Antarctica may be required in this role. IF this role deploys, deployment length is expected to be for 3-8 weeks. The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. *** Other than the deployment period, this position will allow 100% remote work.
