UX/UI Product Designer
SangomaSangoma Technologies is a trusted world leader in value-based Unified Communications & UCaaS solutions.
Role Description Build it, Ship it, Own it. Sangoma has a long history of producing successful desk phones for our customers. In this role, you will own this legacy and help carry it forward, improving the user experience for every call, every transfer, every interaction. Your work, and the brand identity, will be displayed to every user, all day, every day. You'll be designing workflow and interfaces for firmware running on devices with physical keypads, small displays, touch screens, and resource limitations while accounting for challenging use cases. This is not a web, mobile, or branding role -- this is real world engineering. You will be part of the engineering team that produces these products. You don't need prior telephony or embedded device experience, though that is certainly welcome, what you need is genuine curiosity, the ability to learn quickly, and the willingness to become an expert in a niche domain. Your peers and leaders will invest in your success. You'll collaborate directly with team leadership in the US Eastern time zone, so proximity matters. While this is a remote position, we are looking for someone in either eastern or central time zones. A portfolio link is welcome, but not required to apply. If we move forward, we'll ask you to walk us through one or two projects in conversation -- we're more interested in how you talk about your work than how it's presented. Sangoma is dedicated to empowering organizations through reliable Unified Communications, UCaaS, CCaaS, VoIP, and Hybrid solutions. In this role, you will focus on how our desk phone products work with that vast ecosystem. - Own the end-to-end UX of Sangoma’s desk phone and device experiences, from interaction models to execution. - Design for embedded, hardware-constrained environments with physical inputs, limited screens, and real-time expectations. - Define task-driven workflows for core telephony functions: calling, transfers, conferencing, voicemail, call handling, and more. - Develop and maintain UI artifacts including flows, wireframes, interaction specs, and system behaviors prioritizing speed, predictability, and low cognitive load. - Integrate AI tools across the design, implementation, and maintenance phase of product lifecycle. - Partner closely with firmware engineers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and perform reliably in production. - Work with Product Management/Ownership to align UX decisions with real-world usage, customer needs, and business outcomes. - Anticipate edge cases, failure states, and recovery paths in real-time communication scenarios. - Research regulatory factors and usability constraints. - Support the engineering team by contributing to usability testing and iterate based on real user behavior. - Help drive consistency and usability across Sangoma’s broader device ecosystem. Qualifications - Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience (3 years preferred) in UX and user interface design, product design, or interaction design. - You are naturally curious, eager to learn, and motivated to understand how design decisions translate into real behavior. - Demonstrated experience designing task-focused, workflow-driven interfaces. - Strong understanding of human–computer interaction (HCI) principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention. - Ability to communicate UX rationale clearly to engineers and non-design stakeholders. - Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar. Requirements - Experience with telephony, VoIP, or enterprise communications products (preferred). - Experience designing for constrained or non-traditional platforms, such as embedded devices, hardware products, enterprise tools, or operational systems (preferred). - Understanding of localization and internationalization considerations (preferred). - Prior exposure to usability testing or field studies in enterprise or operational environments (preferred). Benefits - Extended Healthcare Plan (Medical, Disability, Dental & Vision). - RPP - Group RRSP. - Group Life - AD&D - Critical Illness Insurance. - Paid Time Off Benefits. - Work From Home - Flexible hours. - Entrepreneurial work environment partnered with high growth career opportunities. - We value transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. For this role, we offer a salary range of $116,000 to $130,000 CAD per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location.
