Senior Staff Data Engineer
BILLAt BILL, we believe in empowering the businesses that drive our economy. By replacing outdated financial processes with innovative tools, we help businesses—from startups to established brands—make smarter decisions and gain control of their operations. We value purpose, drive, and curiosity—and we thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. BILL builds high performing teams and we seek to hire the best talent for every role.
Role Description The Data Platform team builds and operates BILL’s core data infrastructure, providing the end-to-end foundation that collects, stores, processes, governs, and serves data so every team at BILL can use it. We own the full data stack: inbound and outbound data lake, real-time streaming pipelines, batch processing, and data access layers including a Starburst query engine, Databricks Feature Store, Neo4j Knowledge Graph, and OpenSearch. Some capabilities require real-time access with strict low-latency SLAs. Our charter is to simplify the data landscape and power AI at BILL. To achieve this, we focus on building scalable platform capabilities rather than creating one-off pipelines or analytics reports. Engineers here work at the systems level: designing architectures, incubating new capabilities, setting standards, and enabling the rest of BILL to self-serve. The team sits within the CTO organization. Responsibilities - Operate at the architectural level, driving platform-wide technical decisions and mentoring the team. - Own and evolve critical infrastructure across the full data lifecycle, spanning ingest, store, enrich, query, and serve. - Architect and own critical data platform capabilities end-to-end, from inbound ingestion through data lake storage to downstream serving, including the feature store, query engine, knowledge graph, and search. - Define technical direction for the team’s most complex, cross-cutting problems, such as streaming versus batch trade-offs, schema contracts, data access patterns, and real-time serving architectures. - Drive design and delivery of new capabilities from inception to GA, including reference implementations, SLAs, and clear ownership handoff models. - Establish and maintain architectural standards and engineering patterns adopted across the organization. - Lead multi-phase technical migrations at enterprise scale, including compute platform upgrades, warehouse-to-lake migrations, and infrastructure modernization. - Partner with engineering teams across BILL, such as ML/AI, Risk, Payments, and Analytics, to translate diverse data needs into durable platform solutions. - Mentor senior and staff engineers, actively shaping the technical culture and engineering quality bar of the team. - Own and continuously improve critical production systems with a focus on reliability, cost efficiency, and a self-serve developer experience. Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience. - 8+ years of experience in data engineering, distributed systems, or software engineering with a heavy focus on data infrastructure. - 5+ years of experience specifically on data platform, data infrastructure, or data systems teams, rather than purely analytics or BI roles. - Expertise in distributed systems design for data workloads, including a deep understanding of streaming, batch, and real-time serving trade-offs. - Hands-on experience with event streaming platforms (such as Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, or equivalent) and CDC-based ingestion patterns. - Strong proficiency with batch processing stacks (such as Airflow, dbt, Spark/Glue, or equivalent). - Experience with modern open table formats and data lake architectures, including Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or equivalent frameworks. - Familiarity with data access and serving layers, including query engines (Trino/Starburst, Presto), feature stores, vector stores, or graph databases. - Expert-level SQL and strong Python skills, backed by solid software engineering fundamentals such as CI/CD, testing, and observability. - Demonstrated experience architecting and operating large-scale, production-grade data platforms. - A proven track record operating as a technical lead, with the ability to drive ambiguous, high-impact projects from first principles to production. - The ability to define technical standards that hold across organizational boundaries rather than just within a single team. Desired Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in financial services, fintech, or SaaS companies. - Experience building self-serve data platforms or developer-facing infrastructure tooling. - Experience working in fintech, financial data, or highly regulated data environments. Benefits - 100% paid employee health, dental, and vision plans (choose HMO, PPO, or HDHP). - HSA & FSA accounts. - Life Insurance, Long & Short-term disability coverage. - Employee Assistance Program (EAP). - 11+ Observed holidays and wellness days and flexible time off. - Employee Stock Purchase Program with employee discounts. - Wellness & Fitness initiatives. - Employee recognition and referral programs. - And much more.

Role Description The Risk Product team is building the core intelligence layer that keeps BILL's ecosystem safe, scalable, and trustworthy. As Senior Lead Product Manager for the Risk Platform, you will own the technical product strategy for the decisioning and policy engine that powers real-time risk evaluation across credit, fraud, and compliance. This is not a feature team: it is the foundational infrastructure that every risk control at BILL depends on, processing millions of transactions and onboarding decisions for the small and medium-sized businesses that rely on BILL every day. In this role, you will set the roadmap for how BILL ingests, structures, and acts on risk signals at scale. You will define the architecture of our data pipelines and third-party data integrations, partner directly with data engineers, data scientists, and security engineers to translate complex policy requirements into platform capabilities, and ensure the decisioning engine can grow with BILL as transaction volume, product lines, and regulatory obligations expand. Your work will sit at the center of every risk decision BILL makes, from the moment a new business applies to join the platform through every payment they process. Responsibilities - Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for BILL's core risk decisioning and policy engine, enabling real-time, low-latency automated evaluations across fraud, credit, and compliance use cases. - Define the technical architecture for internal APIs, platform services, and data pipelines that power risk evaluation, ensuring the platform scales reliably with BILL's growing transaction volume and product surface. - Partner with data engineering to design and optimize data strategies across BILL's Data Lake and high-throughput data platforms, structuring data for advanced risk modeling and analytics at scale. - Evaluate, integrate, and orchestrate third-party identity, financial, and alternative data sources, building a signal ecosystem that maximizes decision accuracy while managing cost, latency, and vendor risk. - Serve as the translation layer between risk policy goals and deep engineering execution, working directly with data scientists, security engineers, and data architects to align technical implementation with business outcomes. - Define and track platform-level success metrics including decisioning latency, signal coverage, model input quality, and platform uptime, using data to drive prioritization and surface tradeoffs to leadership. - Identify and drive technical debt reduction, scalability investments, and architectural improvements that enable the risk platform to support new products, geographies, and regulatory requirements. Desired Qualifications - Experience building or modernizing a risk decisioning platform at a company that processes significant payment or lending volume, with direct exposure to the tradeoffs between build, buy, and integrate. - Familiarity with machine learning model integration into production decisioning systems, including feature engineering, model serving, and monitoring for drift or degradation. Benefits - 100% paid employee health, dental, and vision plans (choose HMO, PPO, or HDHP) - HSA & FSA accounts - Life Insurance, Long & Short-term disability coverage - Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - 11+ Observed holidays and wellness days and flexible time off - Employee Stock Purchase Program with employee discounts - Wellness & Fitness initiatives - Employee recognition and referral programs - And much more

Director - Strategic Partnerships
BILLAt BILL, we believe in empowering the businesses that drive our economy. By replacing outdated financial processes with innovative tools, we help businesses—from startups to established brands—make smarter decisions and gain control of their operations. We value purpose, drive, and curiosity—and we thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. BILL builds high performing teams and we seek to hire the best talent for every role.
Role Description Join BILL as a Director, Strategic Partnerships and take direct ownership of two of the company's most consequential partner relationships: - A top-5 ERP platform, where BILL's AP product is embedded inside one of the world's most widely used business management systems. - A top-3 U.S. commercial bank, where BILL's Spend and Expense capabilities power the embedded banking experience for small and mid-size businesses. This role sits inside BILL's Embed org, which owns the company's 3-5 year embedded partnerships strategy and is tied directly to a projected $300M revenue opportunity by FY29. Outcomes from this function are reported to the Board and referenced on earnings calls. In this role, you will manage and grow two enterprise-scale partnerships that are not distribution agreements or reseller arrangements. They are deep, co-built integrations where BILL's product lives inside the partner's customer experience, and where success is measured by adoption, transaction volume, and joint revenue growth. You will drive the strategic roadmap across both accounts, influence BILL's embedded product direction from the partner side, and coordinate across Product, Finance, Legal, and the C-suite to keep both relationships performing and expanding. The SMBs who depend on these embedded channels every day to pay vendors, manage spend, and run their financial back office are the reason this role exists. Responsibilities - Own the end-to-end strategic relationship with both partners, including executive stakeholder management, joint roadmap development, commercial performance tracking, and escalation resolution. - Drive measurable revenue and volume growth across both partnerships by setting and tracking joint KPIs with internal Finance and partner-side counterparts. - Influence BILL's embedded product roadmap by translating partner needs into clear, prioritized product arguments and following them through internal Product and Engineering review cycles. - Build and maintain executive-level relationships at both partners, operating credibly with VP and C-suite counterparts on contract, product, and commercial topics. - Coordinate cross-functionally across Product, Legal, Finance, and BILL's C-suite to align on partnership strategy, resolve blockers, and deliver on shared commitments. - Develop and refine the partnership operating model, including QBR frameworks, joint business planning processes, and executive reporting tied to BILL's Embed strategy. - Represent partnership outcomes in board-level and earnings-call-relevant reporting, ensuring results are framed clearly for executive and investor audiences. Qualifications - 8+ years in post-sales enterprise account management or strategic partnerships, with direct ownership of a complex, high-stakes external relationship at a major enterprise or financial institution. - Direct experience in a sell-through or embedded commercial model, where GTM success depended on driving adoption or volume through a partner's customer base, not just on contract signature. - A track record of operating credibly at the VP and C-suite level, both internally and with external partners, including leading commercial negotiations and executive business reviews independently. - Demonstrated ability to influence product direction without authority, translating partner needs into internal product arguments and driving cross-functional alignment across Product, Engineering, and Legal. - Financial fluency, including comfort contributing to financial models, reading partnership P&L implications, and presenting business cases to senior finance audiences. - Experience navigating organizational complexity on both sides of a partnership, managing internal stakeholders through ambiguity while keeping the external relationship on track. Desired Qualifications - Background at a company with a volume-based or embedded commercial motion at scale, such as Stripe, Twilio, Adyen, Marqeta, Plaid, or a comparable fintech, payments infrastructure, or enterprise software company. - Prior exposure to ERP ecosystems, banking technology platforms, or financial services APIs, particularly where product integration was central to partnership performance. - Experience contributing to deal structures or business cases tied directly to a partnership's revenue trajectory, with visibility to CFO or board-level audiences.
