Job type: Contract (12 months)
Remuneration:
- Business Development 16: The annual salary is based on qualifications and experience and typically ranges from $74,297 to $99,063, plus a performance-based incentive bonus.
Workplace :
- Export Development Canada offers a hybrid work environment where employees are currently required to work in the office two days a week, increasing to three days a week in September 2026.
- The successful candidate can work from EDC's head office in Ottawa or from one of our community hubs located in Toronto or Montreal.

Team and position overview
The National Accounts, Small Business Team empowers micro and small businesses across Canada. Through a collaborative and skills-based approach, our account managers, Client Services Team, and Exporter Engagement Team deliver an exceptional client experience by focusing on personalized, practical advice and tailored export solutions.
The National Accounts, Small Business Team manages relationships with small exporting businesses and their financial partners, facilitating access to EDC's financial solutions and knowledge products. As a virtual business development team, we collaborate across EDC and with Canadian financial institutions to foster customer loyalty and satisfaction, as well as new business opportunities. With a focus on operational excellence, inclusive commerce, and scalable support, the National Accounts, Small Business Team continually refines its approach to meet the evolving needs of Canadian exporters and EDC's customer strategy.
The National Accounts, Small Business team is seeking a motivated, organized, and service-oriented individual for an Account Manager position within the Portfolio Account Management Team. Working closely with key financial partners, the successful candidate will manage, maintain, and grow a broad portfolio of current and prospective Canadian small business clients. This will involve assessing EDC's potential clients, optimizing existing client retention through cross-selling and client engagement strategies, and collaborating closely with other business development and underwriting teams to deliver products and services to our clients in a predictable manner. In addition, the successful candidate will promote EDC's working capital solutions by regularly communicating with financial institutions and other market intermediaries.
Main responsibilities
- Portfolio account managers handle a portfolio of approximately 150 to 200 small business clients. In this role, they respond to client inquiries and identify cross-selling opportunities for EDC's range of risk management and working capital solutions to support clients' export growth.
- Evaluate inquiries from potential small business clients and financial partners to identify new business development opportunities, assess working capital issues and risk management needs, and propose value-added solutions.
- To act as trusted resources to current and potential clients and resolve their issues, while managing internal and external interactions professionally and striving to achieve positive results for clients and partners.
- Develop, monitor and advance their own sales pipeline in order to achieve their personal targets for key performance indicators (KPIs) and contribute to their team's objectives.
- Planning and using their time effectively, while balancing competing priorities related to a large client portfolio.
- Collaborate closely with external partners and internal risk management teams to ensure the processing of client transactions through EDC's underwriting processes.
- Contribute to the success of their team by carrying out projects, initiatives and tasks that go beyond portfolio management responsibilities.
- Identify and communicate trends, market insights and examples of EDC's impact on customers through ongoing interactions with current and potential customers and partners.
- Demonstrate a positive team spirit that respects their team's mandate to help Canadian small businesses grow and thrive internationally.
Selection criteria
- Bilingualism – excellent ability to communicate in French and English;
- Undergraduate degree in business administration, finance, commerce, or another relevant discipline
- At least 2 years of experience in business development, commercial lending, international trade, financial services, risk analysis or underwriting;
- Knowledge of best practices in strategic selling or account management.
