Role Description Fairbanks Morse Defense’ Aftermarket Continuous Improvement (CI) function is driving a portfolio of artificial intelligence (AI), business intelligence (BI), and process-automation initiatives; the Fairbanks Morse Operating System (FMOS) program, to make the business faster, better, and more reliable. In order to support the growth and demands of our customers, FMD needs to deliver higher-quality service, faster quoting, faster job completion, and better insight all enabled by automation of manual data tasks, data visualization, and utilizing AI tools to drive efficiency. FMA is seeking an IT Systems Engineer as the dedicated technical resource who designs, builds, deploys, operates and maintains these AI, BI, and automation solutions across the organization. This is a hands-on lead role: you will take prioritized ideas from the CI pipeline and turn them into secure, production-grade solutions running primarily in Microsoft Azure. Qualifications - BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience. - 5+ years of experience in IT, software, or automation development and deployment, including hands-on design, build, and production support, with demonstrated technical leadership. - Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure deploying and operating workloads across compute, storage, networking, identity, and Azure AI / Azure OpenAI services. - Demonstrated experience developing and deploying AI agents into production, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool use / function calling, and orchestration. - Experience using modern AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude / Claude Code, Cursor, Codex Gemini, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent. - Experience designing and deploying network solutions and integrations virtual networks, secure connectivity, and APIs. - Experience building BI dashboards and data models (e.g., Power BI) sourced from ERP and CRM systems such as Oracle and Salesforce. - Proficiency with REST API design, modern authentication (OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect), Git-based version control, CI/CD, and containerization tools such as Docker. - Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences and work productively across teams. - Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and lead initiatives from idea to deployed solution. Requirements - This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet the NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Preferred - Experience working in CMMC and government-contract IT environments, including NIST 800-171, DFARS, STIG, and RMF compliance. - Hands-on experience building and operating applications within Azure Government Cloud (GCC-High, FedRAMP, IL4 / IL5) environments. - Experience building AI agents with frameworks such as Microsoft Semantic Kernel, LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or equivalent. - Experience with vector databases, embedding models, and RAG over large technical-document corpora. - Strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, plus SQL; experience with C# / .NET is a plus. - Experience integrating with Oracle ERP, Salesforce, HFM, and CPQ / quoting platforms. - Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, Bicep) and CI/CD with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. - Experience with the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) for low-code automation. - Familiarity with LLM evaluation, observability, and prompt-engineering best practices. - Experience in manufacturing, defense, or maritime / aftermarket service environments. - Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma or other continuous-improvement methodologies, and working knowledge of MS Project. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment to gather, analyze, and document business, data, reporting, and analytics requirements. • Translate business needs into clear user stories, system specifications, data requirements, workflows, and acceptance criteria that align with project goals. • Develop and support data models in SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Datasphere, including data modeling, data flows, and data virtualization. • Develop and support analytical models, dashboards, enterprise reporting solutions, and business-facing analytics using SAP Analytics Cloud. • Implement and support data ingestion, transformation, harmonization, and integration processes across multiple data sources, including SAP BW/HANA and SAP Datasphere. • Facilitate communication between business stakeholders, development teams, QA, engineers, and data platform teams to ensure a shared understanding of requirements and solutions. • Work closely with QA and engineering teams to review story requirements, validate system functionality, support testing, and confirm reporting accuracy. • Provide support by troubleshooting issues, conducting impact analysis, supporting performance tuning, and recommending practical solutions. • Create flow diagrams, technical documentation, reporting specifications, process documentation, and solution documentation for stakeholders. • Support implementation, training, production support, platform optimization, and ongoing maintenance of business systems and analytics solutions.

• Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, endpoint management tools, SaaS applications, and cloud environments (e.g., Azure, DNS solutions). • Lead the planning and execution of technical projects such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments to ensure minimal disruption and maximum performance. • Proactively monitor and improve system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to enhance reliability and scalability. • Oversee advanced troubleshooting of complex system, network, and application deployments, delivering root-cause analysis and sustainable long-term solutions. • Design and develop intelligent automation and endpoint management solutions using PowerShell and Bash scripts, enhanced by agentic AI platforms including Anthropic Claude. • Integrate REST APIs and third-party services to orchestrate complex workflows, enabling automated data processing, system integrations, and AI-powered decisioning that drive substantial gains in operational efficiency. • Ensure robust security practices, including patch management, vulnerability remediation, and compliance with regulatory standards such as NIST, CIS, SOX, PCI, and ITGC. • Collaborate with IT leadership and stakeholders to define system architecture strategies and align infrastructure with evolving business objectives. • Mentor Systems Administrators and other IT support staff, providing guidance on best practices, advanced technical concepts, and emerging AI-driven methodologies. • Maintain and enhance disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring systems remain resilient and recoverable. • Document system configurations, processes, and procedures, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base for IT operations. • Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies to improve system performance and support organizational growth. • Participate in after-hours project work or emergency incident response. • Lead IT-related projects, including cloud migrations, infrastructure scaling, and technology integrations, as assigned. • Perform other IT related duties or projects, as assigned.

• Engage stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, map current-state workflows, and design Epic build that aligns with operational goals and policy • Manage smaller projects related to system implementations and upgrades • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations and processes • Mentor junior analysts and provide guidance on best practices • Configure records, master files, and tools aligned to approved design, maintain environment parity, and adhere to change management • Develop and execute unit, integrated, and UAT test plans; log and resolve defects • Validate interfaces, printing, reporting, and downstream workflows; confirm regression coverage in upgrades • Provide go-live and post-live hypercare support. • Collaborate with IT and clinical teams to integrate across IT portfolio with other IT systems.
