Job Description

Staff Developer

Dayforce

Role Description We are building the Intelligent Implementation Workspace, the AI-native system that will transform how customers go live on Dayforce. It is one workspace that carries an implementation from a customer's raw inputs all the way through configuration, data migration, and testing. AI agents do the heavy lifting so the experts who deliver implementations are empowered to focus on the highest-value work. Domain agents across Workforce Management (WFM), Payroll, Core HR, and Benefits generate source-grounded configuration, tests, and data migrations. Human experts stay in the loop throughout, and their judgment remains crucial to how every customer goes live. This is a real product with a validated design and a clear path to reshape a market where implementation is one of the largest and least-disrupted spaces in enterprise software. As a Staff Developer, you will: - Set the technical direction for the Intelligent Implementation Workspace and its agentic architecture. - Design the orchestration, agent, and platform layers that turn customer intent into generated, verified configuration, tests, and data migration with human-in-the-loop control throughout. - Build production-ready agentic systems, including agent orchestration across multiple domain agents, harness engineering, and evaluation infrastructure that ensures model output is grounded, auditable, and production-ready. - Own the quality bar for agent output by designing evaluation frameworks and measurements that track accuracy, straight-through processing, override rates, and regressions. - Lead by delivering solutions where technical risk is highest and establish engineering standards through architecture, design, and code reviews. - Act as a force multiplier by leveraging modern AI tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, debugging, and engineering practices across the team. - Drive technical decisions that span services and teams while partnering with Product, Design, Machine Learning, Platform, and product engineering teams across Workforce Management, Payroll, Core HR, and Benefits. - Own the reliability and production readiness of your solutions, including observability, logging, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. - Bring strong product judgment and make thoughtful technical trade-offs throughout delivery. Qualifications - Demonstrated experience building production agentic systems and architectures, including agent orchestration, evaluation frameworks (evals), and harness engineering. - Demonstrated ability to leverage AI to improve execution for yourself and your team, with measurable outcomes such as reduced cycle time or faster delivery. - Strong, recent hands-on experience building production software, preferably using C# and .NET. - Strong backend development experience with front-end capability; experience with React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks is an asset. - Proven experience designing and delivering reliable, maintainable distributed systems. - Ability to define ambiguous system-level problems and drive complex technical decisions with significant business impact. - Strong product mindset and technical judgment with the ability to balance outcomes and trade-offs. - Ownership mentality with the ability to lead initiatives from concept through delivery. - Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and production readiness. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Benefits - Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. - 401k plan (plus match). - Global Employee Stock Purchase Plan. - Unlimited Time Away From Work (in lieu of accrued vacation time). - 10 paid US holidays. - Up to 80 hours of paid sick time. - 17 weeks of paid parental leave, subject to the terms of the applicable policy or program. - Opportunities for community impact, including volunteer days and our charity, Dayforce Cares.

Block builds simple, powerful tools that make progress towards an economy that’s truly open to all.

Full TimeRemoteTeam 10,001+Since 1990H1B Sponsor

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block. The Role Ledgering is the accounting core that other teams at Block build on. We keep the authoritative records of balances for Square and Cash App, along with the transactions and settlement that move that money. As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you will build and operate the systems of record for balances and transactions, the settlement orchestration that decides how sellers and customers get paid, and the automated treasury systems that position Block's own cash. At Block's transaction volume, this work has direct, measurable impact on financial accuracy and on the trust merchants and customers place in us. You Will - Design, build, and operate the balance and transaction systems of record that serve as the financial source of truth for millions of merchants and customers. - Build settlement orchestration that determines how account holders get paid: schedules, amounts, deposit methods, and withholdings. - Develop self-serve ledgering APIs with durable semantics and clear contracts, so partner teams can stand up a new balance or transaction type in about a day instead of waiting weeks on custom integration work. - Emit balance and settlement data that downstream finance, reconciliation, and reporting teams can trust, against agreed data contracts. - Design and implement reliable, high-volume distributed transaction-processing systems, making thoughtful tradeoffs between consistency and availability when both are not possible. - Drive convergence across a large portfolio of financial services: consistent transaction and balance models, shared workflow tooling, and predictable integration patterns. - Operate tier-0 and tier-1 financial systems against published SLOs, and debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack in a high-reliability environment. - Work AI-natively: use AI agents throughout the development lifecycle, and build agents and automation that reduce operational toil across our services. - Lead complex projects end to end, breaking the work into components and milestones that other engineers can pick up. - Mentor other engineers and contribute to the technical direction of the team. - Work with engineers, product managers, and finance and treasury stakeholders across the company to ship new capabilities at scale. You Have - A minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience. - Experience designing and operating distributed, high-throughput, fault-tolerant services, with a strong understanding of consistency, idempotency, and failure handling. - Experience building money-movement systems such as ledgers, double-entry accounting, settlement, or treasury, or the curiosity and drive to build deep expertise in the domain. - Proficiency in at least one major programming language (for example Java, Kotlin, or Go) and strong SQL. - Experience leading complex, ambiguous projects across multiple engineering teams and driving clear next steps in areas without clear ownership. - High standards for software architecture and engineering practices, including maintainable and testable code, CI/CD, and observability, in a complex, high-stakes financial environment. - Proficiency in using AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle to improve engineering productivity, problem solving, and software delivery. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. Technologies We Use and Teach - Java, Kotlin, Python - AI agents and tooling across the development lifecycle, including AMP, Codex, Claude, Goose and MCP - Temporal, Protocol Buffers, jOOQ, GraphQL - MySQL, Aurora, Vitess, Databricks, Snowflake - AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog We're working to build a more inclusive economy where our customers have equal access to opportunity, and we strive to live by these same values in building our workplace.
