Job Description
Director, Mobile Engineering
Impiricus
• Lead and grow a high-performing engineering organization spanning mobile (iOS/Android) and backend, responsible for delivering world-class, reliable products end-to-end. • Define and execute engineering strategy across mobile and backend, aligning technical initiatives with product and business objectives. • Own the group's overall technical architecture — including mobile-backend integration, API design, and service architecture — ensuring consistency and scalability across the stack. • Establish and drive adoption of engineering standards and processes (development, testing, CI/CD, observability, release management, code review). • Partner closely with Product, Design, and AI to deliver scalable, customer-centric experiences across mobile and backend. • Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, code quality, operational best practices, and continuous improvement across teams. • Build, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across mobile and backend, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and accountability. • Design secure, scalable APIs, backend services, and high-performance mobile solutions in an integrated way, rather than as two disconnected efforts. • Ensure all applications and services meet the highest standards for security, privacy, reliability, accessibility, and performance. • Lead technical planning and execution for strategic initiatives, balancing innovation, scalability, and delivery velocity across the group. • Oversee organizational growth, hiring, and adoption of emerging technologies — including AI-powered capabilities — across mobile and backend.
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, spanning both mobile and backend/server-side development.
- 5+ years leading engineering teams, with experience managing engineering managers and scaling organizations across multiple technical disciplines (mobile and backend).
- Deep expertise in modern mobile development (Swift/SwiftUI and/or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) and solid backend fundamentals — distributed systems, RESTful/GraphQL API design, databases, and service architecture.
- Demonstrated experience defining architecture and technical standards at an organizational level — not just within a single discipline — and driving their adoption across teams.
- Strong understanding of authentication, networking, offline synchronization, mobile security, and application performance, as well as backend scalability, reliability, and security practices.
- Experience establishing engineering best practices (architecture, code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, observability) that apply across an entire engineering group.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional strategy and partner with Product, Design, and executive leadership.
- Experience recruiting, mentoring, and developing senior engineers and engineering managers across disciplines.
- Excellent communication and organizational leadership skills, balancing technical depth and business impact.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents + on-demand healthcare concierge
- Pre-tax savings options for healthcare and dependent care, with monthly employer contributions to HSA (if enrolled in a high-deductible plan)
- 100% paid short- and long-term disability, plus life and AD&D insurance
- Take the time you need with a flexible vacation policy — recharge your batteries your way
- Paid parental leave to spend time with your newborn, adopted, or foster child (available after 6 months)
- If you’re close to an office, we encourage spending some time in-person to collaborate and connect. If not, remote is always an option.
- Save for your future with tax advantages (and company match!)
