Job Description

Director, Global Solutions Engineering

UpGuard

• Manage and develop distributed managers and their teams of Sales Engineers and Solutions Consultants across regions. Hire, coach, and retain top technical talent; set clear career paths; and build a culture of technical excellence, curiosity, and customer obsession. • Lead the Sales Engineering team to drive pipeline conversion through world-class demos, proofs of concept, technical discovery, and value engineering — consistently earning the technical decision. • Lead the Solutions Consultants team as the technical escalation path for CSMs and the driver of technical cross-sell across our product suite. • Be willing and able to personally jump into a high-stakes customer call and lead it — you set the technical bar by example, not just from the org chart. • Build a scalable, high-quality function for RFPs, security questionnaires, and technical/security assessments — improving accuracy, consistency, and turnaround, and building reusable content that raises win rates. • Technically enable partners — training, certification, demo readiness, and deal support — so they can independently represent and implement our product. • Work with Sales Enablement to design and deliver technical training, certification, demo standards, and competitive playbooks that keep the team and the wider revenue org sharp. • Capture field and technical feedback and channel it to Product and Engineering to influence the roadmap. • Contribute to forecasting, capacity planning, and go-to-market strategy with the CRO and revenue leadership team, and define the metrics and processes that make the function measurable and scalable.

Job Requirements

  • A demonstrated track record of building and leading a world-class Solutions/Sales Engineering team — you've raised the technical bar of an organization, not just managed headcount.
  • Experience selling and supporting a genuinely technical product to technical buyers and evaluators (engineers, security teams, architects). Cybersecurity or security/GRC experience is strongly preferred; adjacent deeply-technical domains considered.
  • Proven experience as a manager of managers leading distributed or global teams across multiple time zones.
  • Ownership of the technical experience across the customer journey — from the technical win in new business through post-sales technical support and cross-sell.
  • A hands-on disposition — you're credible and willing in the room, able to step into and lead a high-stakes customer call yourself.
  • A track record of building or scaling RFP / security assessment functions and lifting win rates through repeatable process and reusable content.
  • Experience technically enabling channel / partner ecosystems so partners can represent and implement the product independently.
  • A strong partnership orientation — you've worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Enablement.
  • Excellent executive communication skills; equally credible with C-level buyers and hands-on technical evaluators.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-growth, remote-first environment.

Role Description We are looking for a driven and highly proactive Internal Consultant to help stand up our project-based Solutions Engineering practice. In this role you will be the connective tissue between client needs, technical design, and repeatable delivery, where you will be turning ambiguous opportunities into well-scoped, well-priced engagements, and building the templates, kits, and workflows that let the team deliver them consistently. - Lead the development of project proposals end-to-end: translating client needs and architect input into clear, structured, well-scoped engagements. - Draft the narrative, assemble estimates and assumptions, and co-own final proposals with solutions leadership. - Partner with solutions architects and client stakeholders to define project scope, deliverables, boundaries, and assumptions. - Document scope guardrails and change-control triggers, ensuring every engagement is defined clearly before it starts. - Build and continuously improve the team's service delivery kits such as reusable templates, estimation models, SOW/engagement frameworks, playbooks, and scoping checklists. - Partner with internal technical builders to implement workflow automation opportunities across Solutions Engineering. - Support the Partnerships team by streamlining shared workflows, documentation, and handoffs between partnerships-sourced opportunities and the delivery pipeline. - Act as a proactive problem-solver across the practice: surfacing gaps, proposing structure where none exists, and moving work forward without waiting to be asked. - Analyze scoping accuracy and engagement outcomes over time, feeding insights back into estimation models and delivery kits. Qualifications - Bachelor's in Business, Engineering, or a related field; consulting, pre-sales, or solutions background is a strong plus. - 4–7 years of experience in management consulting, pre-sales/solutions, engagement management, or project delivery, ideally within a technology, AI/data, or professional-services environment. - Demonstrated experience writing proposals, SOWs, or scoping documents (experience with fixed-price engagements is a significant plus). - Comfort partnering with technical stakeholders (architects, engineers) and translating fluidly between business and technical language. - Exceptional written communication: you can turn a messy discovery conversation into a crisp, persuasive, well-structured document. - A strong process and operations mindset, with a track record of building templates, playbooks, or repeatable systems. - Working familiarity with workflow automation tools (e.g., Zapier, Make, n8n) and with project/collaboration tools (Jira, Asana, Monday.com, Notion). - An analytical, numbers-comfortable approach to estimation, scoping, and simple ROI/margin reasoning. - High degree of self-direction, ownership, and comfort operating in ambiguity within a newly forming team. - Professional-level fluency in English with impeccable written and verbal communication skills (C1).
