Your role provides business-minded thought leadership throughout all phases of data development, including intake, work initiation, requirement gathering and iteration planning and project estimations. You will serve as the data-related voice of the customer in translating functional data and analytic requirements into solutions for consumption and use by the respective business area, managing communications between Technology and business, resolving blockers/questions/support needs, conducting/coordinating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and approving releases. You will evaluate potential data impacts, coordinate with stakeholders, and serve as steward for data governance, access rights/audits and defect resolution. Job Description Key Responsibilities: - Serves as a top-level expert in the identification, execution, and communication of data strategy opportunities, defining long-term goals and key performance indicators to further a data-driven culture in support of business priorities. - Proactively consults and provides recommendations and direction on acquisition, curation, and consumption of data for analytical and operational uses, driving development and maintenance of reference data and mastering rules to ensure a single version of the truth across all data consumers. - Drives creation and maintenance of road maps, mapping the end-to-end flow of data and the business processes and/or technical interfaces which would be created or impacted and recommends solutions/adaptations. - Develops collaborative relationships with business, Technology, and vendor partners, providing leadership in communicating key activities, strategies, data impacts, and quality issues. - Structures and leads processes, analyses, communication, and change management across data domains, with primary goal of improving business decision-making speed and efficiency through alignment of data investments, definitions, key metrics, and usage. - Leads gathering of data, reporting and analytic requirements from business requestors, understanding and managing interdependencies in prioritizing development and delivery of solutions. - Participates in planning and execution of UAT, triage issues and works with development team to resolve technically complex issues requiring alignment across multiple business stakeholders and disciplines. - Defines and promotes data governance structure, standards, and procedures to ensure data is well-defined, consistent, accurate, accessible, and secure. - Demonstrates broad knowledge and understanding of investment asset classes, and those data elements most critical to support business processes. - Integrates emerging data and analytic trends, competitive research, and industry best practices into Nationwide. - Provides direction, mentoring and guidance for less experienced team members. Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP or Data Leader Typical Skills and Experiences: Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education strongly preferred. Graduate studies in business, statistics, math, computer science or a related field are a plus. License/Certification/Designation: Certifications are not required but encouraged. Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience with data management organization/standards or practices. Substantial experience in designing recommended solutions using industry best practices and leading initiatives across business and technology teams. Experience engaging business leaders, data architects and external consultants to identify and fill gaps in data and analytics environment. Experience with product roadmap development, application of data acquisition and data wrangling using modern programming and scripting languages (i.e., SQL, R, Python), and cloud technologies – Azure and AWS (i.e., Redshift, S3, EC2, etc.).
