Role Description The Corporate Counsel is a generalist in-house attorney supporting the labor and employment, commercial, compliance, litigation, and regulatory functions for the Company. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and international laws and regulations across a broad range of legal disciplines, primarily supporting operations in North America (U.S. & Canada). - Support and advise on Company policies and practices for all workforce-related matters, including: - Employee relations (ER/HR issues) for contingent workers - Employee benefits - Litigation and related compliance - Identify and mitigate compliance risks and potential claims against the Company and its affiliates. - Assist the General Counsel in overseeing external counsel. - Provide creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance. - Act as both a strategic advisor and hands-on problem solver. Qualifications - Juris Doctor degree - Member in good standing of a U.S. State Bar or the District of Columbia (California wage and hour experience preferred) - Able to work EST or CST time - 5+ years of experience; preferably a combination of in-house and law firm experience - Strong knowledge of laws and regulations relating to: - Employment - Independent contractor classification - Commercial contracts - Export controls - Trade sanctions - Data privacy across various geographies - Strong general litigation experience, including employment, commercial, and regulatory matters. - Experience managing outside counsel and litigation budgets. - Experience with export controls and trade sanctions compliance (OFAC, EAR, and/or ITAR) preferred. - Comfort working across a varied docket of legal matters as a generalist in-house attorney. - Self-motivated, able to work with light supervision, and assume significant responsibility. - Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment to prioritize and meet required deadlines. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires completion of a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and admission to at least one state bar, and a minimum of eight to ten years medical professional liability management experience, either as an in-house claims professional or outside counsel. Must gain admission to AZ bar through reciprocity or in-house counsel provision. Strong negotiating skills and a working knowledge of medical terminology are required. Strong analytical skills are necessary as well as the ability to organize and communicate information both orally and in writing with all levels of the organization. Initiative and the ability to handle responsibility independently are necessary; must have the ability to deal with conflict in a non-confrontational manner and possess the ability to handle sensitive situations and information in a calm mature manner. Ability to meet deadlines and to respond to shifting priorities is necessary. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities, as well as to work under pressure. Must be able to travel to various BH sites or other locations for litigation management purposes up to 50% of the time.
