Role Description This project position is open to internal Arts Commission employees only and is dependent on legislative appropriation and, though expected to last for two years, is not guaranteed past June 30, 2027. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm The Opportunity: Art in Public Places (AIPP) program purchases and cares for artworks in state buildings, colleges, universities, and schools throughout Washington. The State Art Collection includes more than 5,000 artworks, located where people study, work, and live. The Collection includes a wide range of materials, sizes, and styles. In this role, we are looking for a visual arts professional with experience in studio art, art conservation, material science, museum studies, or a closely allied field. You will manage the conservation of several large-scale sculptures, working with art conservators and other specialized vendors to plan and execute repairs. Your work will support the completion of a suite of large-scale projects that received special funding from the State Legislature. You will also lead the conservation team in safety protocols and the care of 2-dimensional artwork. You will provide conservation treatments in the 2D specialized program area. - Leading other collection care staff and advising supervisors in treatment of artworks in their specialized component areas - Collaborating with colleagues in the specialized component areas for which those colleagues are the lead - Working closely with other public agencies to ensure that ArtsWA has access to artworks located at facilities outside of our control - Acting as the primary liaison with the Department of Licensing, which hosts ArtsWA's Thurston County workspace, and DES for fleet vehicles under ArtsWA lease - Presenting treatment recommendations - Acting as lead when project is in specialized program component areas - Performing specialized treatments - Managing all aspects of the contracting process with suppliers and vendors - Planning and coordinating work in collaboration with ArtsWA partner agencies and artists - Explaining ArtsWA position and complex art conservation issues to partner agencies and artists - Ensuring site and public safety in and around worksite - Determining safety protocols relevant to the work of the Collection Care team and determining safety equipment and PPE needs - Identifying, coordinating, and providing safety training - Using the Collection Care specific Accident Prevention Plan to guide safety processes Qualifications - REQUIRED: - [OPTION 1] Eight (8) years of highly relevant professional experience and/or apprenticeships may be considered a substitute for degree and experience outlined below. - [OPTION 2] Bachelor's degree and four years relevant experience - [OPTION 3] Master's degree and two (2) years relevant experience in studio art, art conservation, material science, museum studies, or closely allied field. - Experience must include planning, coordinating, and consulting with a variety of public agencies or private stakeholders about complex projects. - AND Advanced knowledge of a variety of art materials, including durability and compatibility issues; fabrication methods; agents of deterioration; and an ability to troubleshoot problems with mechanical and electrical equipment. - Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings/documents. - Must be able to travel statewide, including overnights. - PREFERRED: - Experience performing material science research, preparing reports, summaries, and recommendations for historical records and higher-level staff decisions. - Experience with art conservation, art maintenance, art handling, and safe art storage and transport. - Computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Photoshop. • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage contracts including NDAs, teaming agreements, subcontract agreements, vendor agreements, reseller agreements, SOWs, task orders, and managed services agreements. • Support Federal contracting activities involving GWACs, IDIQs, GSA Schedules, NASA SEWP, NITAAC, CIO-SP, and related procurement vehicles. • Maintain contract repositories, reporting requirements, renewals, modifications, and compliance documentation. • Partner with sales, finance, operations, and leadership teams to evaluate risk, ensure compliance, and support pursuit activities. • Provide guidance on contract terms, customer commitments, flow-down clauses, and delivery obligations while supporting business growth and operational success.
