Location: Remote US Start date: ASAP Languages: English (required) About the Role Pragmatike is hiring on behalf of a fast-growing AI startup recognized as a Top 10 GenAI company by GTM Capital, founded by MIT CSAIL researchers. We are searching for a CUDA Kernel Engineer who has hands-on experience developing and optimizing NVIDIA CUDA kernels from scratch. You will work on the GPU performance layer powering large-scale, high-throughput AI systems used by Fortune 500 customers. This role is ideal for someone who deeply understands NVIDIA GPU architecture, memory hierarchy, warp-level execution, and profiling workflowsnot someone coming from generic hardware, FPGA, or non-NVIDIA compute backgrounds. You will directly influence the GPU efficiency, throughput, and scalability of mission-critical AI systems. What Youll Do - Design, implement, and optimize custom CUDA kernels for NVIDIA GPUs, with a focus on maximizing occupancy, memory throughput, and warp efficiency. - Profile GPU workloads using tools such as Nsight Compute, Nsight Systems, nvprof, and CUDA‐MEMCHECK. - Analyze and eliminate performance bottlenecks including warp divergence, uncoalesced memory access, register pressure, and PCIe transfer overhead. - Improve GPU memory pipelines (global, shared, L2, texture memory) and ensure proper memory coalescing. - Collaborate closely with AI systems, model acceleration, and backend distributed systems teams. - Contribute to GPU architecture decisions, kernel libraries, and internal performance-engineering best practices. What Were Looking For - Proven track record building NVIDIA CUDA kernels from scratchnot just calling existing libraries. - Strong ability to optimize kernels (tiling strategies, occupancy tuning, shared memory design, warp scheduling). - Deep understanding of CUDA threads, warps, blocks, and grids, GPU memory hierarchy and memory coalescing, as well as warp divergence (how to detect, analyze, and mitigate it) - Experience diagnosing PCIe bottlenecks and optimizing host-device transfers (pinned memory, streams, batching, overlap). - Familiarity with C++, CUDA runtime APIs, and GPU debugging/profiling tooling. Bonus Points - Experience with multi-GPU or distributed GPU systems (NCCL, NVLink, MIG). - Background in GPU acceleration for ML frameworks or HPC workloads. - Knowledge of model inference optimization (TensorRT, CUDA Graphs, CUTLASS). - Exposure to compiler-level optimization or PTX/SASS analysis. - Startup experience or comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments. As a Senior Design Engineer, you will act as a mentor and technical guide, providing oversight and support to junior and mid-level engineers. You will work independently on the most complex designs, take ownership of design accuracy, and provide critical input to project stakeholders. This role requires a proactive problem solver who adeptly balances customer expectations with technical and business requirements, all while shaping and improving design standards and processes across the team. Day-To-Day Responsibilities: Pre-Sales Design and Proposal Efforts - Leverage in-depth knowledge of the audio-visual industry and business practices to support Account Managers in strategically selling large projects. - Demonstrate technical and industry expertise, address complex customer challenges, and inspire confidence in the company’s ability to deliver solutions. - Provide accurate labor estimates and material requirements to support sales proposal creation. - Develop and maintain comprehensive design standards packages for large and repeat customers accounts. Design Responsibilities - Develop detailed system documentation, including a bill of materials, conceptual block diagrams, infrastructure plans, and scopes of work to ensure quality and completeness. - Determine infrastructure requirements, such as power, data, and conduit, during pre-sales efforts and coordinate with general contractors. - Identify, account for, and communicate about project risks, site conditions, scheduling requirements, and dependencies in the design. - Review pre-construction documentation to ensure clarity and alignment with project objectives. - Coordinate with vendors, architects, consultants and contractors to align designs with project constraints during design development. - Review and validate designs from junior Engineers and guide on adherence to best-practices. Project Responsibilities - Support project teams during implementation and provide technical input as the “design authority” as needed. - Support of meetings outside of local time zones is required (approximately 20 times per year). - Travel to various job sites both domestic and internationally as needed. - Provide weekly project updates to XTG Engineering Manager. Mentorship, Leadership and Collaboration - Review and provide constructive feedback on designs from junior and mid-level engineers to ensure quality and consistency. - Share knowledge and best practices to support the development of the engineering team’s skills and processes. - Preform additional tasks, responsibilities, and projects as needed to support the team and organization, ensureing flexibility in adapting to evolving priorities and objectives. Technical Expertise and Knowledge - Proficiency in design and configuration of broadcast and AV systems flow, from acquisition to transmission, including software tools and standards. - Comprehensive understanding of IP networking, including AVoIP, TCP/IP, multicast, VLANs, and Quality of Service (QoS) and network architecture. - Experience with SMPTE 2110, AES67, and other Audio/Video over IP (IPMX, DNI, and AVoIP) standards. - Familiarity with AV/IT industry standards such as AVIXA, ANSI/TIA. - Proficiency with tools such as CAD (e.g., AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu). - Full understanding of common infrastructure requirements, including power, data, and conduit, and how they integrate into broadcast and AV systems. - AVIXIA CTS-D Certification. - AVIXA ANP (Audio-Visual Network Professional) Certification (Cisco CCNA or similar may be considered in lieu of ANP). - Relevant audio/DSP certifications (Biamp, Q-SYS, BSS, Extron, Shure, etc.). - Valid driver’s license and a motor vehicle record meeting company standards. - Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Nice-To-Haves: - Formal education in Electronics, Engineering, or a related field preferred. - Seven (7) years of experience in broadcast and audiovisual system design or integration. - Direct experience using Enterprise Broadcast and VC solutions (Ross Video, Grass Valley, Evertz, VIZRT, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Cisco Webex/Telepresence)-both hardware and software. - Experience with large-scale or enterprise-level AV projects, including coordination with multi-disciplinary teams. - Proven track record of contributing to process improvements, developing design standards, or leading initiatives in design workflows.
