Forward Deployed Engineer
CaylentCaylent is an information technology company offering cloud-native services and expertise that helps customers “harness the power” of Amazon Web Services (AWS) with state-of-th
Caylent is a cloud native services company that helps organizations bring the best out of their people and technology using Amazon Web Services (AWS). We provide a full-range of AWS services including workload migrations and modernization, cloud native application development, DevOps, data engineering, security and compliance, and everything in between. At Caylent, our people always come first. We are a global company and operate fully remote with employees in Canada, the United States, and Latin America. We celebrate the culture of each of our team members and foster a community of technological curiosity. Come talk to us to learn more about what it means to be a Caylien! About This Role Caylent’s Anthropic Business Unit is a dedicated AI services practice built in partnership with Anthropic. The Agentic Architect is the strategic and architectural lead on AI engagements. Paired with a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) who handles hands-on implementation, you own the engagement arc: shaping AI strategy, designing operating models, mapping AI outcomes to business value, and guiding executive stakeholders through adoption. You lead the room — the FDE builds what you architect. This is a cross-functional role. You engage across lines of business, not just engineering, connecting AI initiatives to the outcomes that matter to each part of the organization. Every engagement is anchored to Anthropic’s platform and focused on real AI adoption outcomes. Your clients span PE portfolio companies, growth-stage software businesses, and enterprise organizations. You are the strategic face of Caylent from kickoff through handoff. What You’ll Do Strategy and Architecture - Own AI engagements end-to-end as the strategic lead, from discovery through executive handoff, partnered with an FDE who drives implementation - Run structured discovery across engineering, product, and business stakeholders to map organizational context, AI readiness, and strategic goals across lines of business - Design AI operating models that define how the organization adopts, governs, and scales AI. Not just within engineering, but across the business - Define AI outcome maps that tie initiatives to measurable business results: efficiency gains, revenue impact, risk reduction, and time-to-value - Lead AI maturity assessments and architect near-term and long-term adoption roadmaps aligned to Anthropic’s platform capabilities - Facilitate executive workshops and enablement sessions for audiences ranging from engineering teams to C-suite leaders - Deliver executive presentations to CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and line-of-business leaders covering current-state findings, ROI projections, and strategic recommendations - Direct FDE work on Claude Code tooling, prompt architecture, and workflow automation. You set the technical direction, the FDE executes Client Relationship and Business Development - Identify expansion opportunities across lines of business. AI strategy work naturally surfaces adjacent needs in departments beyond the initial engagement - Shape follow-on scope throughout the engagement: by Week 1, you should have a working hypothesis for the next engagement; by the final on-site block, you present it - Build executive relationships that position Caylent as a long-term AI strategy partner, not a one-time vendor - Attend on-site for the final Catalyst block: readout, workshop, and executive presentation Internal Contribution - Contribute reusable strategy frameworks, delivery artifacts, and methodology improvements back into the practice at engagement close - Lead AI strategy engagements spanning multiple teams, platforms, and business functions - Collaborate with FDEs to refine the architect-engineer delivery model and improve handoff patterns What We’re Looking For Required - 8+ years of software development or technical architecture experience across varied stacks, including hyperscaler environments - 3+ years in engineering leadership, technical consulting, solutions architecture, or a combination - Demonstrated ability to engage across lines of business. You can talk to a VP of Engineering about CI/CD and a COO about operational efficiency in the same week - Experience designing or advising on AI operating models, technology adoption strategies, or digital transformation programs - Hands-on familiarity with Claude Code or equivalent AI-assisted development tools — you don’t need to configure them daily, but you need to speak the language credibly and direct an FDE’s work - Certified Claude Architect - Experience running structured stakeholder interviews, discovery sessions, and facilitated workshops with both technical and business audiences - Strong executive communication: writing and presenting to CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and line-of-business leaders - Experience delivering professional services engagements, including scope management, deliverable ownership, and client advisory - Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software development workflows Preferred - Experience mapping AI initiatives to business outcomes (revenue, efficiency, risk, time-to-value) with executive-level ROI framing - Familiarity with PE portfolio company environments and board-level communication - Background in solutions architecture, platform engineering, or enterprise technology strategy - Experience with LLM prompt engineering, agentic AI workflow design, or AI product development - Direct experience with Claude Code’s extensibility model - Familiarity with SDLC maturity frameworks or workforce analytics (DORA, DevEx) - Experience designing and facilitating workshops for mixed audiences — engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders Who Thrives Here The Agentic Architects who do well here are a specific profile: - Sat in the seat. You’ve led engineering teams or technology strategy inside a product company and understand the pressures executives navigate when adopting AI. Clients can tell. - Thinks across the business. You don’t stop at engineering. You see how AI impacts operations, product, and go-to-market — and you can have those conversations with the people who own them. - Knows when to slow down. You surface risks before committing to an approach. When the client’s definition of the work is wrong, you say so. - Closes the next engagement. The final week of a Catalyst is a conversion window. You treat it that way — and the cross-LOB relationships you’ve built give you multiple paths to expand. - Makes the methodology better. Every engagement teaches you something. You feed it back into the practice rather than keeping it in your head. - Earns trust at the executive level. You’re as comfortable presenting an AI operating model to a COO in the morning as reviewing prompt architecture with your FDE that afternoon. This is a poor fit if you want someone else to handle the sales motion or prefer execution-only roles. You are accountable for both strategic delivery quality and account expansion. Why This Team - Ground floor of something real: this BU is early, well-resourced, and anchored to Anthropic. You're writing the playbook, not inheriting one - Own the methodology: you are shaping how AI-DLC enablement gets delivered. Every engagement you run improves the one after it - Proximity to the market: your clients are PE portcos, enterprise engineering orgs, and Anthropic-referred customers at the frontier of AI adoption - Revenue upside: Agentic Architects who drive account expansion earn on revenue generated, not just delivery margin - AI-native by default: this team uses AI in how it works. Specification-First Engineering is how we move from prototype to production fast - Outcomes, not hours: advancement tied to delivery performance and account growth, not utilization Benefits - 100% remote work - Equitable Life - Hybrid Plan - 100% Premium Coverage for the employee and dependents - Competitive phantom equity - Long-Term Disability - 4% Pension match (employer contribution) - Unlimited Vacations - Sick Leave - Paid Holidays - Parental Leave - Paid for exams and certifications - Peer bonus awards - State of the art laptop and tools - Equipment & Office Stipend - Individual professional development plan - Annual stipend for Learning and Development - Work with an amazing worldwide team and in an incredible corporate culture This role may require up to 50% travel, depending on business needs. Base Salary Range: The expected base salary range for this position is CAD $175,000 - $195,000per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional Compensation Components: In addition to the base salary, the compensation package may include bonuses, commissions, equity, and other incentives. The specific components will vary depending on the role and individual and/or company performance. NOTE: We’re unable to provide visa sponsorship now or at any time in the future. About This Role Caylent’s Anthropic Business Unit is a dedicated AI services practice built in partnership with Anthropic. We are Anthropic’s first pure-play delivery partner. You are the technical engine of AI engagements. You own the hands-on delivery: rapid prototyping, running evaluations, configuring Claude Code tooling, and building production- grade AI systems in client environments. You live inside your clients’ codebases, standups, and architecture decisions, and you own the technical outcomes. There are two FDE archetypes: Technology-Workforce FDE. Targets engineering, product, and IT organizations. Specializes in AI-enabled developer tooling, AIOps, and LLM-native product builds. Operational FDE. Targets operational and business-unit workforces. Specializes in workforce automation, process transformation, and AI-augmented business operations. What You’ll Do Technical Delivery - Own the technical delivery within AI engagements, working alongside the strategy and architecture lead - Build rapid prototypes that validate AI approaches early. Prove feasibility before committing to full implementation - Design and execute evaluation frameworks: define metrics, run evals against client use cases, and use results to iterate on solutions and inform strategic recommendations - Configure and customize Claude Code tooling tailored to each client’s codebase, coding standards, and development practices - Design and build production-grade AI systems: agents, data pipelines, AI-augmented workflows, and platform capabilities in the client’s codebase, not a sandbox - Own the technical relationship with client engineering teams: you are the primary technical contact from IC to engineering leadership, building the trust that earns you a seat in hard conversations - Run technical discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and hands-on workshops with engineering stakeholders; translate strategic direction into scoped, deliverable work - Surface technical risks and opportunities. Your field observations shape the engagement strategy Delivery Quality - Transfer lasting capability: build as if you’re handing off tomorrow, with documentation, runbooks, and working software that stands on its own after you leave - Feed the practice: contribute reusable patterns, evaluation templates, and field-tested IP back to the team at engagement close. This is how the business gets smarter from your engagements Internal Contribution - Support pre-sales scoping and technical discussions alongside the account team - Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the delivery methodology - Collaborate with the engagement team to refine delivery patterns and improve handoffs between strategy and implementation What We’re Looking For Required - 5+ years of software engineering, with meaningful time in a client-facing or embedded delivery context - Hands-on experience with Claude Code or equivalent AI-assisted development tools, including configuration, prompt-based instructions, and workflow automation. - Hands-on depth in one or more of: LLM application development, cloud-native architecture (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, or backend systems at scale - Experience with rapid prototyping. You can take an ambiguous problem and have a working proof-of-concept in days, not weeks - Familiarity with evaluation frameworks for AI systems: defining metrics, running evals, and using results to iterate on solutions - Proven ability to run independently inside a client environment, managing your own priorities, stakeholders, and delivery quality while aligning with the broader engagement strategy - Strong communicator: technically precise with engineers, clear and confident with technical leadership; conceptual and easy to understand for the business; adjusts depth to the audience - High tolerance for ambiguity; able to start delivering value before every requirement is defined Preferred - Experience building production AI systems: RAG pipelines, agents, fine-tuned models, or LLM-native applications - Direct experience with Claude Code’s extensibility model: custom skills, hooks, MCP servers, and prompt architecture. Claude Certified Architect Certification preferred. - Background in a consulting firm, systems integrator, or professional services environment - Familiarity with SOW-based delivery and scope management in a professional services context - AWS certifications: Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional, or equivalent - Experience designing and running technical workshops or enablement sessions for engineering teams Who Thrives Here The FDEs who do well here share a specific profile: - Earns trust fast. Client engineers invite you into hard conversations because you’ve shown you’ll be straight about trade-offs. Technical credibility and interpersonal judgment both matter. - Proves it before you build it. You prototype quickly, run evals to validate assumptions, and use data to shape what gets built next. You don’t over-invest before the approach is proven. - Writes code that lasts. You build as if you’re handing it off tomorrow: clean, documented, transferable. In services, you often are. - Thinks in systems. You see how today’s technical decision creates tomorrow’s operational constraint. You zoom out before you zoom in. - High learning rate. T-shaped, with breadth across domains and depth in at least one. Comfortable being new to something on Monday and useful by Wednesday. - Partners well. Your field observations and technical judgment inform the engagement strategy, and you stay connected to the bigger picture rather than optimizing in isolation. - Drives to closure. Once a problem is solved, you move to the next priority without dragging prior noise forward. Momentum matters here. This is a poor fit if you prefer heavy process, close management, or environments where scope is fully defined before you arrive. Ambiguity is the default state here, not a temporary condition. Why This Team - Ground floor of something real: this BU is early, well-resourced, and anchored to Anthropic. You’re writing the playbook, not inheriting one - The work is at the frontier: LLM-native delivery, agents, AI product builds. Not catch-up projects for organizations still evaluating whether AI is real - Autonomy with backing: minimal oversight in the field, but a strong technical bench behind you when the problem warrants it - AI-native by default: this team uses AI in how it works, not only in what it ships. An agentic SDLC is how we move from prototype to production fast - Outcomes, not hours: compensation and advancement tied to delivery performance and revenue contribution, not utilization - Breadth that compounds: you’ll grow technical range across a diverse client portfolio faster than any single-company role Benefits - Medical insurance for you and eligible dependents - 401k plan with company match up to 4% and immediate vesting - Competitive phantom equity - Company-issued laptop - Dental and vision insurance - Term disability and life insurance - Flexible Spending Account - Equipment and office stipend - Annual stipend for learning and development - Unlimited paid time off - 10 paid holidays This role may require up to 50% travel, depending on business needs.
