Job Description
Business Development Representative (Frankfurt)
Groupon
Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. To date we have worked with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting over 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In a world often dominated by e-commerce giants, we stand out as one of the few platforms uniquely committed to helping local businesses succeed on a performance basis. Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. We're seeking candidates based in or near Frankfurt About the role: As an Outside Sales Business Development Representative on Groupon's Germany Sales team, you will be the face of Groupon in Frankfurt and the Rhine/Main metropolitan region - Germany's financial capital and largest economic hub. You'll build our marketplace by identifying, engaging, and onboarding new local merchants across a broad range of categories such as food & drink, health & beauty & wellness, leisure & experiences, and home & auto services. This is a 100% remote field sales role where you will drive merchant acquisition through proactive outbound prospecting, in-person meetings, and full sales cycle ownership in the Frankfurt area. You'll develop strong fundamentals in consultative selling, territory management, and deal execution while being supported by your manager and experienced wingman colleagues. North Star: Build a strong pipeline of new local merchants in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region through field representation and successfully onboard 3+ quality partners weekly that meet Groupon's profitability standards, contributing consistently to marketplace growth in Germany's most important economic region. What You'll Do: - Hunt new business in the field: Proactively identify and contact prospective local merchants across Frankfurt and the Rhine/Main area through outbound calls, in-person visits, and strategic territory planning - this is an outside sales role focused on face-to-face relationship building. - Own your territory: Represent the Groupon brand throughout the Frankfurt metropolitan region, conducting merchant appointments in person, building local market knowledge, and establishing Groupon as the partner of choice for local businesses. - Manage the full sales cycle: Qualify merchant needs, present Groupon's value proposition confidently to business owners, negotiate deals, and close 3 merchants per week independently using your consultative selling skills. - Meet performance targets: Achieve €20K-22K Gross Profit per quarter while maintaining 200 minutes of talk time per week, conducting 25-30 solid calls weekly and booking 8-10 appointments per week while balancing both phone outreach and in-person meetings. - Master your pipeline: Maintain accurate activity tracking, pipeline updates, and forecasting in Salesforce, managing 40-50 active opportunities to ensure consistent deal flow. - Ensure merchant success: Collaborate with Merchant Success teams to support smooth onboarding, ensuring your partners are set up for success from day one. - Work autonomously with support: Operate independently in a 100% remote environment while staying connected to your manager (Patrick Metz) and wingman colleagues who will guide your development. - Leverage AI-enabled tools: Use AI-powered sales tools to support merchant outreach, prepare conversations, prioritize territory opportunities, and follow up efficiently while keeping CRM data accurate. What You Bring: - Based in or near Frankfurt - This role requires regular in-person merchant visits throughout the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region. - Fluent German (native or business level) required for merchant communication in the German market. - Professional English needed for internal communication and reporting. - Sales experience or hunger to learn: Minimum 1-2 years of sales or business development experience; we prioritize motivated, hungry candidates with the right attitude over extensive experience - your first sales role is perfectly acceptable. - Hunter mentality: Comfort with cold calling, proactive prospecting, and in-person field sales - you're not afraid to pick up the phone or knock on doors. - Mobility within Frankfurt/Rhine-Main: Willingness to travel throughout the metropolitan region for merchant visits and the ability to work productively in a 100% remote environment without a local office. - Resilience: Ability to handle rejection, stay motivated, and maintain momentum in a performance-driven role. - Strong communication skills: Confident engaging with business owners by phone and in person, building trust and credibility. - Basic CRM familiarity: Experience with Salesforce or similar tools is a plus; full training will be provided. Who You Are: - A self-starter who thrives on ownership, is motivated by achieving ambitious goals, and excels in autonomous environments. - Consultative and confident, capable of leading face-to-face conversations with business owners and adapting your pitch to their unique needs. - Resilient and competitive, maintaining focus and positivity even when facing rejection—a "no" doesn't slow you down, it fires you up. - Organized and disciplined, able to structure your own week effectively to balance call time, in-person appointments, and administrative tasks while working remotely. - Collaborative and coachable, eager to learn from your wingman colleagues and participate in team development, even while working independently. - Passionate about helping small businesses succeed and excited to build Groupon's presence in Germany's financial capital and most important economic region. How We Operate At Groupon, we're building a culture of extreme ownership, speed, impact, simplicity, and discipline. These aren't aspirational values, they're how we expect everyone to show up every day: Extreme Ownership - One owner per outcome, no passengers, no excuses. We avoid accountability theater; we don't blame teams or create shared ownership that diffuses responsibility. When something goes wrong, we look in the mirror first. We escalate early, make trade-offs explicit, and ensure everyone knows who owns what. Speed Over Comfort - We ship fast and learn faster. Perfect is too slow. We make fast, reversible decisions, normalize iteration, encourage early demos and prototypes, and admit mistakes openly. Bureaucracy and endless debate are the enemy. We clear bottlenecks and accelerate decisions across functions. Impact Obsessed - We focus only on what moves the metrics that matter. We set metric-first goals, direct effort to high-value work, avoid feel-good activity, and use data and customer/merchant stories to guide decisions. We don't confuse effort with impact or tolerate low-ROI work that erodes trust. We drive team ROI and raise the quality bar by prioritizing ruthlessly. Simplify to Scale - Complexity kills; simplicity scales. We build lean, scalable processes, remove noise, champion clarity and efficient ways of working. We drive cross-org simplification, push automation and tooling, question every layer, and ensure systems work for diverse voices - especially those closest to customers and merchants. Disciplined - We do more with less; constraints breed creativity. We make ROI-based decisions, enforce resource discipline, set clear priorities, make durable decisions, and uphold integrity in data and commitments. We use constraints to drive innovation, build efficient operating rhythms, lift team productivity, and protect trust in trade-offs. We prioritize long-term value and create organizational leverage that scales efficiently. In This Role, These Principles Mean: - Taking full ownership of your territory, pipeline, and performance targets - your success is in your hands. - Moving quickly to prospect, schedule appointments, conduct in-person visits, and close deals without waiting for perfect conditions. - Focusing relentlessly on quality merchant acquisition that drives GP growth and meets profitability standards - activity without results doesn't count. - Following structured sales processes while keeping Salesforce data accurate and current at all times, enabling team visibility and support. - Demonstrating discipline in managing your remote work schedule, balancing field time with call time, and meeting all activity and results KPIs consistently. - Continuously learning from your wingman, applying coaching feedback, and improving your sales fundamentals to increase impact week over week. How We Measure Your Success: Weekly Targets: - 3 closed merchants per week (after ramp-up period) - 200 minutes of talk time - 25-30 solid outbound calls - 8-10 in-person appointments booked Quarterly Targets: - €20,000-€22,000 Gross Profit - Pipeline health and conversion rates - Quality and retention of merchants onboarded Overall Success Indicators: - Deal margins and merchant profitability through effective negotiation - Demonstrated territory ownership and market penetration in Frankfurt/Rhine-Main - Pipeline accuracy and forecasting in Salesforce - Effective use of AI-enabled sales tools to improve outreach quality, follow-up consistency, and data accuracy - Performance against 1-year Fixed-Term Contract milestones What We Offer: 💰 Competitive Compensation Package 🚀 Career Growth & Development 🌍 Onboarding Experience 💼 Work Flexibility & Support 🎯 Additional Benefits The Opportunity: Join Groupon during a pivotal expansion moment. We're launching our outside sales pilot in Germany's most important market, and you'll be on the ground floor of building our brand presence in Frankfurt, Germany's financial capital and largest economic hub.
