About The Role We are seeking individuals to join as Manager, Commercial Analytics to support commercial optimization and portfolio management of esVolta’s battery storage portfolio (with a focus in CAISO), while also supporting broader commercial analytics and reporting across the full portfolio. This role reports to the lead CAISO Portfolio Manager and partners closely with internal teams and external stakeholders. The Manager will be a key contributor to the optimization of our CAISO fleet of assets, own recurring forecasting and performance reporting, synthesize vendor and third-party inputs into clear takeaways, and build AI-enabled workflows and reusable tooling (including Custom GPTs) that improve speed, quality, and repeatability across the organization. Mission Deliver decision-ready analytics and forecasting for Commercial Operations, with a CAISO focus, while building scalable processes and AI-enabled tools that materially improve execution. What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months - Vendor reporting cadence: Establish a consistent vendor/third-party intake and dissemination cadence that produces concise takeaways and action items focused on revenue and risk drivers. - Monthly forecast updates: Own monthly revenue forecast updates end-to-end, including assumptions, variance narratives, and clean outputs ready to circulate with minimal rework. - Quarterly forecast reports: Streamline and automate the quarterly revenue forecast reporting process to improve turnaround time, consistency, and traceability. - CAISO optimization independence: Independently support day-to-day CAISO optimization and performance monitoring, consistently meeting or exceeding internal revenue capture expectations. - Long-term price forecasting: Develop a scalable long-term hourly price forecast approach for key ISOs, with priority coverage of CAISO, ERCOT and SPP. - Structured transaction analytics: Produce decision-grade commercial analytics that support evaluation and origination of structured transactions across CAISO, ERCOT and SPP. - Portfolio performance reporting: Improve performance tracking and reporting so leadership updates can be produced quickly with clear narratives, key metrics, and executive-ready visuals. - AI leverage at scale: Stand up multiple Custom GPTs plus broader workflow automation/reusable tooling that materially reduces cycle time on recurring research, analysis, reporting, and drafting. - Documentation and standards: Publish clear SOPs for core analytics/reporting workflows and maintain an organized repository so outputs are easy to find, reuse, and audit. - Stakeholder representation and communications: Reliably and confidently represent the team with senior internal and external stakeholders, owning data quality and ensuring communications align with the broader team and company narrative. Core Responsibilities CAISO portfolio analytics and optimization support - Monitor CAISO portfolio performance and market conditions, identify key drivers, and translate findings into clear insights and recommended actions. - Support optimization strategy development and execution to meet revenue capture goals. - Produce ad hoc analyses to support commercial decisions, stakeholder questions, and internal alignment. Revenue forecasting and recurring reporting (portfolio-wide) - Own monthly revenue forecast updates including assumptions, variance narratives, and distribution to stakeholders. - Lead quarterly revenue forecast reporting in PowerPoint with crisp, decision-ready takeaways. - Maintain forecasting hygiene including version control, documentation, and quality checks. Vendor and third-party reporting synthesis - Review vendor and third-party reports and distribute succinct takeaways focused on decision-relevant metrics. - Drive consistency in how inputs are reviewed, summarized, archived, and acted upon. - Coordinate follow-ups to improve vendor outputs when clarity, consistency, or usefulness is lacking. Cross-functional and external interface - Partner with internal teams including Asset Management, Performance Engineering, Finance, Legal, Development, Origination and IT. - Support external stakeholder deliverables and requests with polished materials and sound judgment. AI, automation, & continuous improvement - Leverage enterprise AI tools to streamline recurring analytics and reporting workflows. - Build and maintain Custom GPTs and reusable tooling that scales across the team. - Identify repetitive work and implement automation to improve speed, quality, and consistency. - Document workflows so improvements are repeatable and durable. Skills & Qualifications - 3-5+ years of experience in power markets, commercial analytics, portfolio analytics, or related roles. - Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field. - Energy storage experience required. - Strong power market knowledge required, CAISO knowledge strongly preferred. - Advanced Excel skills required. - Strong Microsoft Office skills required, PowerPoint specifically. - Coding (Python and/or SQL) preferred but not required. - Must be able to leverage AI tools effectively, including navigating technical and code-adjacent systems with AI support. - Strong commercial judgment and analytical rigor. - Clear, concise communication with the ability to distill complex items into action-oriented takeaways. - High ownership, strong self-sufficiency, and reliable follow-through. - High emotional intelligence with the ability to receive and deliver constructive criticism. - Fast learner with a continuous improvement mindset. - Highly curious problem solver with the ability to make confident decisions in the face of uncertainty.
