Oracle
Our team builds and operates cloud-native services that enable developers and platform users to build, deploy, and manage applications in Oracle Cloud environments. We are looking for a principal-level engineer who will act as a technical leader for the team and a force multiplier across a broader engineering area. In this role, you will define architecture, drive technical strategy, and lead execution for critical service and platform investments. You will partner with product managers, partner teams, and customers to shape direction, break down ambiguous problem spaces, and align engineering decisions with long-term product and platform goals. You will be expected to lead large or ambiguous initiatives end to end, influence design and operational practices across teams, and raise the technical bar through mentorship, design leadership, and engineering rigor. This role requires strong ownership, sound judgment in tradeoff-driven decisions, and the ability to move complex efforts forward through influence rather than direct authority. We own our services end to end, including design, implementation, production operations, reliability, and continuous improvement. The right candidate will not only deliver strong technical solutions, but also strengthen how the organization builds software by improving architecture, development practices, operational excellence, and cross-team execution. Ideal candidates will have deep experience building, delivering, and operating cloud-native, highly available, distributed systems across regions. They should be comfortable working across service boundaries, improving engineering practices, and influencing technical direction beyond their immediate area. Our team is primarily remote and distributed across multiple geographies. Strong written and verbal communication, cross-team collaboration, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment are essential. Desired Qualifications: - 10+ years of experience in software development, with significant experience leading complex backend or platform initiatives - Deep expertise in designing and building scalable, secure, and highly available distributed systems - Strong architectural skills, including the ability to evaluate tradeoffs and define long-term technical direction - Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives from concept through production rollout - Experience with API design and implementation, including REST- and/or gRPC-based services - Experience with database design, data modeling, and service interface design - Experience with container-based deployment technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker - Experience with source control and modern development workflows using Git and related tooling - Experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, or similar - Strong communication skills, including the ability to influence technical decisions across teams and levels - Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and raise the engineering bar for a broader organization - Strong ownership and ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with cloud platforms and cloud-native application development - Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation - Experience designing and operating multi-region or highly available production services - Experience driving improvements in reliability, operational excellence, and developer productivity - Experience working in Linux-based environments - Ability to learn and evaluate new languages, frameworks, and technologies as needed - Experience with Agile methodologies - Strong desire to stay current with modern backend and cloud technologies - Experience with Scala and/or ZIO is a plus - Experience with workflow orchestration technologies such as Temporal is a plus - Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience Only Oracle brings together the data, infrastructure, applications, and expertise to power everything from industry innovations to life-saving care. And with AI embedded across our products and services, we help customers turn that promise into a better future for all. Discover your potential at a company leading the way in AI and cloud solutions that impact billions of lives. True innovation starts when everyone is empowered to contribute. That’s why we’re committed to growing a workforce that promotes opportunities for all with competitive benefits that support our people with flexible medical, life insurance, and retirement options. We also encourage employees to give back to their communities through our volunteer programs. We’re committed to including people with disabilities at all stages of the employment process.
