Lead Software Engineer (Mainframe) Job Description The Lead Software Engineer will lead the development and delivery of key technology components under the Individual Markets Technology organization for the legacy Life Administration system (LCS) and its integrations with new Admin system (ALIP). This role will work directly with cross-functional customers, provider partners and development team members to define, design and deliver the technical solutions that will support the business’s vision, strategy and goals. You are A self-starter, continuous learner and experienced technical leader who can transform abstract ideas into actionable customer solutions, partnering across the company with architects, engineers, product managers, business partners and executive team members. You will - Lead the efforts of development team(s) consisting of resources spread across multiple time zones. Work with offshore counterpart to coordinate completion of all team assignments, ensuring deadlines and landmarks are met. - Work with the development team(s) to ensure consistent software architecture and coding practices are used in all applications. - Take a leadership and mentoring role when working with less experienced staff always improving of technical expertise within the organization. - Informs project collaborators on progress and potential problems that jeopardize deadlines and achievements. Makes recommendations and modifications; removes obstacles. - Helps to Define roles and responsibilities within the development team. Is agile and flexible, shifting resources to align with changing priorities. - Works with Product Owners and Scrum Masters on feasibility analysis, costs, and resource projections, facilitates architects and teams to generate technical design plans, ensures product specifications and quality standards are met. - Liaise with Production Support teams to ensure well-planned and timely handoffs of new features, thorough documentation including a well-groomed document repository, and committed partnership for raised defects or severity events. - Works with architects to resolve best technical solutions and applications for overall use in company products. Provides technical consultation to executive staff in resolving competitive strategies. - Lead implementation efforts for new applications and code updates. Work with enterprise and shared service teams on infrastructure setup, review board approvals, and deployment coordination. - Stays abreast of new technology trends and advantages. Makes recommendations for direction of new and existing products. Defines application roadmaps which includes a strategy around minimizing technical debt. - Reviews and approves all coding and documentation, user manuals, testing documentation and procedures for existing and future applications. - Ensure compliance with security, privacy, legal, infrastructure, and administrative/corporate processes and policies. - Works with Production Support and other Shared Services teams in support of our products and customer. - Lead implementation efforts and support interfaces/integrations between the legacy life policy admin system (LCS) and the new ALIP policy admin platform for Whole-life and Term Insurance products. - Analyze/Provide mapping of ALIP Database fields to the legacy system for building downstream data extracts. - Lead creating and implementing Mainframe processes to consume data-extracts for ALIP policies and merge with legacy processes for downstream applications. - Understand business priority of enhancements for quarterly production releases. Analyze impact to legacy system and provide technical requirements to ALIP data extract teams and work with QA for test results validation. - Manage production implementation for mainframe interfaces and post-production validation. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business Administration or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications. - 10+ years of experience working in supporting multiple software projects in various IT roles. - Experience performing systems analysis of Mainframe life insurance administration systems. - Prior/Current experience in Life insurance Products - In-depth insurance domain knowledge. - Experience performing systems analysis of Mainframe life insurance admin system using COBOL language. - Experience working with DB2 or any relational database. - In-depth knowledge of software development lifecycles including Agile development and testing. - Experience in Performance tuning of applications on Mainframes to resolve performance issues due to additional volume. - Experience with legacy back-end data integrations and downstream mappings for life insurance admin systems - Understanding of ALIP back-end/staging data schema - Excellent written and verbal communications, organization, analytical, planning and leadership skills. - Strong management, communication, technical and remote collaboration skills. - Excellent team collaboration skills, including experience in dealing with multiple projects and multi-functional teams, and ability to coordinate across teams in a large matrix organization environment. - Strong relationship building and maintaining skills. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
