Role Description The Senior Disability Underwriter is responsible for exercising their discretion & using professional judgment in decision making of individual disability cases up to $15,000/monthly indemnity. They will use their training and experience to determine the insurability as well as premium classification of applications. The Senior Underwriter is also accountable for managing assigned work, maintaining excellent agency relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction at the highest level. The Senior Disability Insurance Underwriter will work with adjacent departments, including Individual Disability Service & Administration, for the benefit of the facilitation of the entire underwriting and administrative process. The Reviewing Dentist for appeal claims is a licensed dental professional who completes clinical reviews of dental claim appeals to determine benefit assignment in accordance with Guardian clinical guideline criteria. The role focuses on benefit determination (not treatment recommendations) and supports consistent, fair application of dental policy. Responsibilities also include assigned peer‑to‑peer and provider outreach calls. This position reports to the Assistant Dental Director. Schedule: 24 hours/week. A Guardian Sales Executive should be the resource of choice for brokers and their clients This role will report to the Market Leader within the assigned territory. You will: - Market, position, and sell Guardian’s Group Benefits products and technology solutions to large market brokers and consulting houses. This includes Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Absence, and Supplemental Health products. - Support the general wellbeing of the broker and client relationship for the development and growth of Guardian sales and client retention. - Understand local territory dynamics to build, develop and maintain broker relationships to grow the book of business while representing Guardian’s vision to inspire well-being. - Be accountable for consistently achieving or exceeding personal sales production by creating growth with large regional and national broker consultants and implementing sales strategies. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to examine market trends and stay ahead of consumer demands. - Represent Guardian by acting as a market leader, sharing thought leadership and maintaining strong community relationships. - Identify, recommend and champion process improvements and organizational initiatives to increase sales of product offerings. - Achieve required industry licensing within 90 days of date of hire and maintain license through completing Continuing Education requirements. You Have: - A BS, BA degree or equivalent industry experience - A minimum of 10 years’ previous group insurance sales experience or a combination of Guardian work experience, education and/or related extracurricular activities - Experience working with large, complex national accounts along with large Regional and national broker consultants - Experience and knowledge of relevant industry products and processes including, but not limited to Worksite, LTD, Dental products, complex absence products, experience rating, dental network analysis processes Soft Skills: - Collaborative team player with the ability to effectively build rapport in person and virtually. - Exercise sound judgement and integrity in a changing, matrixed, and fast past environment. - Exude confidence, positivity, and proactivity. - Act with accountability to deliver on commitments with speed and quality. - Team player with ability to build relationships and effectively interact both internally and externally with people at all levels of the organization and customer orientation. Location and Travel: - Preferred location will be the San Francisco / Northern California area; will also consider qualified applicants in Washington and Oregon - Approximately 50-60% travel within the assigned territory Base Salary: $75,000 The salary reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In this role you will use your expertise to determine the insurability as well as premium classification using tools available including, medical history, financial verification and various third-party vendor provided reports. The Senior Life Underwriter is accountable for managing assigned work, developing agency relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction at the highest level. The position requires the individual to operate in a cross-functional team environment. You are The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and confidently make underwriting decisions that provide the best offer within their assigned approval authority and protect mortality. They will also be able to transform conceptual thinking into competitive decisions that align with company philosophy and department guidelines. You will - Recognize and obtain requirements necessary in evaluating risks, consistently using a comprehensive approach (a “broadened view” of the entire case to forecast all needs and requirements at onset) - Evaluate medical, financial, and non-medical information, as developed, to determine the risk classification according to company guidelines. - Collaborate with our reinsurers to negotiate and secure risk classification for business that may exceed our mortality standards, exceed our corporate retention, and/or for the benefit of securing a more competitive offer. - Communicate with field partners and home office personnel for the purpose of acquiring necessary information, solving problems, negotiating appeals, and conveying decisions in a polite, confident, and professional manner. You have - 3-5 years of experience in individual life underwriting - Bachelor’s degree - Industry related education (ALU, CLU, LOMA, etc.) - Knowledge of underwriting manuals, MIB (Medical Information Bureau) reporting, and various risk assessment vendor tools - The skills for risk assessment, collaboration, and customer service - The ability to think divergently. - Knowledge of individual life insurance products/processes - Analytical, Negotiation, Written and Oral communication skills. - Exceptional decision-making skills and organizational and time management skills Salary Range: $68,970.00 - $113,310.00 The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position.
