The Technical Program Manager - New Product Installations provides technical support to Bloom Energy’s Installations Organization by performing constructability reviews, overseeing installation documentation, evaluating specifications, and supporting field execution activities. This role strengthens installation quality, reduces construction risk, and ensures consistency across installation standards and documentation. Although this position does not carry an engineering title, it requires strong technical aptitude, installation experience, and the ability to evaluate design packages and specifications for constructability, cost‑effectiveness, and compliance. The Technical Program Manager works closely with engineering, construction, and field teams to support the successful deployment of Bloom Energy systems. Key Responsibilities Constructability Review and Technical Governance - Conduct targeted drawing reviews for projects where constructability input provides measurable value, specifically: - Sites greater than 5 MW - Non‑EPC projects - Lead quality control (QC) and value engineering (VE) reviews for high‑impact installations. - Serve as the primary reviewer for Tallgrass project drawing packages due to their scale and complexity. - Evaluate technical handover packages and provide accept/veto recommendations to support early leadership decision‑making. - Provide early‑stage constructability feedback to design teams to improve installation efficiency and reduce field rework. - Identify opportunities to reduce installation cost, simplify construction sequencing, and mitigate field risk. Specification Review and Value Engineering Oversight - Review installation‑related specifications, material selections, and vendor proposals to identify cost‑saving alternatives and ensure alignment with Bloom standards. - Evaluate alternate materials, conductor types, grounding approaches, and installation methods for technical suitability and cost impact. - Provide recommendations for specification updates that improve cost, availability, constructability, or long‑term reliability. - Partner with engineering and supply chain teams to validate alternate specifications and ensure proper follow‑through from recommendation to implementation. - Support continuous improvement of installation specifications based on lessons learned, field feedback, and vendor performance. Installation Documentation Ownership - Manage the structure, accuracy, and ongoing updates of installation manuals across all product lines. - Oversee third‑party contractors responsible for producing installation manual revisions. - Ensure installation documentation reflects current standards, lessons learned, and field best practices. - Maintain documentation quality and consistency as Bloom introduces new product variations. Submittal Review and Field Support - Review equipment submittals to ensure alignment with installation requirements and design intent. - Provide technical clarification and support to field teams during installation and commissioning activities. - Conduct targeted site visits (10–20% travel) to assess field conditions, resolve issues, and validate constructability assumptions. - Support issue resolution by coordinating with engineering, construction, and field operations teams. - Review and support development of MOPs associated with electrical energizations, tie-ins and commissioning. Cross‑Functional Collaboration - Collaborate with construction engineering, installation design, project management, and field operations teams to ensure alignment on installation requirements. - Coordinate with drafting resources to ensure constructability requirements are accurately incorporated into construction documents. - Participate in internal and external project meetings to provide updates on drawing reviews, documentation status, and technical handover readiness. - Serve as a technical liaison between design teams and field execution teams to ensure alignment and reduce rework. Required Skills and Competencies - Strong understanding of construction sequencing, installation practices, and field execution constraints. - Ability to identify cost‑saving and risk‑reducing opportunities within design packages and specifications. - Experience reviewing construction drawings, installation documentation, or technical handover materials. - High attention to detail with the ability to drive complex tasks to completion. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences. - Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities. - Effective collaboration skills with cross‑functional engineering and construction teams. Preferred Experience - Background in construction, installation, field engineering, or technical documentation. - Experience supporting large‑scale infrastructure, energy, or industrial projects. - Familiarity with permitting, construction submittals, and RFI processes. - Experience coordinating with drafting or design teams on construction documentation. - Exposure to specification development, alternate material evaluation, or value‑engineering processes. Position Impact The Technical Program Manager - New Product Installations plays a critical role in strengthening Bloom Energy’s installation quality, constructability oversight, specification governance, and documentation accuracy. By focusing on high‑impact, non‑EPC projects and large‑scale installations, this role ensures that technical expertise is applied where it delivers the greatest financial and operational benefit. The position directly supports Bloom’s ability to execute installations with consistency, quality, and reduced risk across an expanding product portfolio. Role Description Toast R&D is building an AI-native operating layer for how we plan, execute, and learn. This role will help design and build that foundation from the ground up. You will turn messy, manual workflows into structured, automated, and continuously improving systems—leveraging agent-first workflows, integrations, and low-code/no-code builder tools to build standalone applications to solve R&D org-wide problems. Rather than simply administering tools, you will architect how work flows across Jira, JPD, our internal beta testing platform, and adjacent systems—ensuring data integrity, automation by default, and real-time operational insight. This is a builder role: you will identify friction, prototype quickly (often with AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code), ship to production, measure impact, and harden what works. This role sits within the R&D Operations team at Toast. We empower teams to build great products efficiently and at scale by removing obstacles, fostering alignment, and equipping teams with the right processes, systems, and insights. Responsibilities - Optimizing and instrumenting the existing R&D operating system. - Architect automation-first workflows across Jira, JPD, internal beta systems, and adjacent tools. - Design structured data models and guardrails so systems stay clean by default — not through manual enforcement. - Eliminate recurring manual work through event-driven automations and API integrations. - Instrument workflows to generate operational telemetry (cycle time, bottlenecks, throughput). - Build reusable automation patterns that scale beyond one-off fixes. - Treat tool administration as a fallback — system design and automation as the default. - Help create the AI platform layer that improves how R&D operates. - Design and deploy agent-first workflows where AI systems execute meaningful portions of work autonomously within defined boundaries. - Use AI-native development environments (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) as daily drivers to prototype and productionize agents and internal AI tools. - Architect multi-step agent systems that retrieve context, reason across structured and unstructured data, generate outputs, and take bounded action. - Establish safe autonomy standards: scoped permissions, observability, evaluation loops, and human escalation paths. - Ship quickly, measure impact, and harden what works. Qualifications - 8+ years of experience in Technical Operations, Systems Engineering, Product Operations, Platform Engineering, or a similar role within a software or R&D organization. - Demonstrated experience building and shipping AI-native systems & custom tools — including hands-on work with AI coding environments (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and agentic workflows. - Experience designing multi-step AI systems that retrieve context, reason, generate outputs, and take bounded action. - Strong systems thinking: ability to design end-to-end workflows across tools, APIs, data models, and automation layers. - Experience integrating systems via APIs and building event-driven automation. - Experience designing human-in-the-loop controls and safe autonomy guardrails. - Strong cross-functional partnership skills and the ability to translate operational friction into production-grade systems. - Clear, concise communicator able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications - Track record of independently identifying operational friction and implementing durable, automation agentic AI-first solutions at scale. - Background operating in a high-growth or high-complexity SaaS environment where systems and governance needed to scale alongside the organization. Benefits - Competitive compensation and benefits programs. - Flexibility to meet Toasters’ changing needs. - Additional components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible). Pay Range The base salary range for this role is $133,000 - $213,000 USD. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. Company Description At Toast, one of our company values is that we're hungry to build and learn. We believe learning new AI tools empowers us to build for our customers faster, more independently, and with higher quality. We provide these tools across all disciplines, from Engineering and Product to Sales and Support, and are inspired by how our Toasters are already driving real value with them. The people who thrive here are those who embrace changes that let us build more for our customers; it’s a core part of our culture.
