Role Description The Virtualization Administrator II or equivalent is responsible for managing and maintaining the agency’s virtualized IT infrastructure to ensure its stability, performance, and security. This includes administering both on-prem and cloud hosted environments, resolving virtualization-related issues, and supporting agency IT initiatives. The role involves oversight of the on-prem hardware infrastructure (e.g., servers and storage), the on-prem hypervisor environment (e.g., VMWare, vSphere), and CSP infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure. The Virtualization Administrator II also contributes to the automation of infrastructure deployment and the integration of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) into CI/CD pipelines. Key responsibilities include: - Architecture, complex troubleshooting, overseeing upgrades and migrations, implementing backup and disaster recovery, automation, and providing mentorship to junior staff. - Designing, building, implementing, and troubleshooting information systems hosted on VMware, AWS, and Azure. - Providing technical support for existing and emerging virtualization technologies and assisting with planning and execution of related technology projects and initiatives. - Overseeing the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs), virtual infrastructure, and physical infrastructure (including rack mounting and hardware configuration). - Monitoring the performance of virtual environments and optimizing resource allocation to ensure efficient operation. - Diagnosing and resolving issues related to virtualization, including VM performance, connectivity, and security. - Implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual environments. - Ensuring the security of virtual environments by applying patches, updates, and mandatory/recommended security configurations. - Maintaining detailed documentation of virtualization configurations, procedures, and policies. - Working closely with other IT teams to support virtualization needs and integrate virtual solutions with other systems. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. - 5-7 years leading virtualization administration. - Demonstrated experience in leading the management of VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies. - Automating IT administration and server provisioning through tools such as Azure DevOps, Azure Automation, Azure CLI, PowerShell, VMWare PowerCLI, and Terraform. - Integrating infrastructure tool APIs to enable the deployment of Infrastructure as Code integrated with CI/CD deployment pipelines. Requirements - VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate preferred. Soft Skills - Organizational Skills: Can plan and prioritize work. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Seven years experience in relevant IT areas, including end user systems support, automated server builds, cloud-based deployments, and data center deployments. - Demonstrated experience in engineering, migration, troubleshooting, and support of the following technologies: Entra ID, Active Directory, Exchange Online O365, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Azure. - Public trust security clearance. Preferred Skills - Microsoft (MS) Certified Solutions Associate or similar Microsoft certifications appropriate to the technologies listed above preferred.
