What You’ll Do IronArch Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support Ask VA, a VA.gov service that lets Veterans submit questions and routes those inquiries through Microsoft Dynamics CRM to the appropriate service desk for resolution. This role serves as an experienced individual contributor on the Ask VA delivery team, acting as the primary backend resource and partnering closely with the team’s Software Engineer Lead. The engineer is responsible for backend design, implementation, and integration work that supports the team’s scope, schedule, and delivery commitments to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Key Responsibilities - Serve as the primary backend engineering resource on the Ask VA team, owning day-to-day backend design and implementation alongside the Software Engineer Lead. - Build and maintain API abstraction layers that connect the Ask VA front end and downstream VA systems to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM ticketing backend. - Translate product and stakeholder requirements into well-scoped backend work, partnering with the Software Engineer Lead on technical direction, sequencing, and risk. - Contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and delivery commitments. Help the team meet scope, schedule, and quality targets. - Conduct code reviews, mentor team members on backend patterns, and reinforce engineering quality standards. - Identify and communicate technical risks, dependencies, and integration challenges to the Software Engineer Lead and program leadership early. - Collaborate with front-end engineers as capacity allows, contributing to full-stack delivery when backend workload permits. - Support production reliability and incident response for backend services. Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. - 7+ years of professional software engineering experience. - Demonstrated experience designing and building API abstraction layers, including REST or service-to-service integration patterns. - Hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in a production environment. - Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of partnering effectively with technical leads, product managers, and cross-functional team members. - Ability to work independently as a senior individual contributor while coordinating closely with a small, experienced engineering team. Preferred Experience - Experience integrating with Microsoft Dynamics CRM - Experience supporting VA.gov, Department of Veterans Affairs programs, or other federal digital services. - Familiarity with front-end development (React or similar) is sufficient to contribute on the front end when backend capacity allows. - Experience operating in agile, government digital service delivery environments. - Comfort with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), CI/CD pipelines, and modern observability tooling. • Lead the day-to-day Technical Operations function in support of the EHRM client, using monitoring tools (LightsOn, Tachyon, Splunk) to identify, triage, and resolve end user device, client networking, and system issues. • Guide troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues across client and stakeholder teams to continuously improve the end user experience. • Provide technical analysis and oversight across all systems engineering aspects of the EHRM transition to a COTS product line, including requirements development, network and system environment setup, test, change management, release and deployment, support, and sustainment. • Actively monitor for, identify, and address technical risks, gaps, and opportunities affecting the ability of the solution architecture to satisfy requirements throughout the lifecycle. • Prepare analysis of alternatives (AoA) presentations to support client and program decision making. • Proactively engage Integration and Interfaces, Cyber, Infrastructure, Architecture, and other stakeholder teams to ensure timely execution of strategic plans and schedules.

• The Senior Consultant serves as a key delivery lead for workforce planning and human capital analytics activities, supporting federal clients in assessing workforce capabilities and designing actionable solutions. • Lead execution of future workforce demand analyses, translating strategic initiatives into roles, skills, and capacity requirements. • Develop role-based frameworks, competency models, and skill taxonomies aligned to enterprise workforce planning needs. • Conduct current workforce supply and capability assessments, leveraging workforce data, assessments, and validation techniques. • Design and implement skills and competency assessments using IO psychology methodologies. • Perform workforce gap and scenario analyses, identifying capacity and skill shortfalls across multiple planning scenarios. • Translate workforce gaps into mission and operational risks to support leadership decision-making. • Develop human capital solutions and program recommendations, including reskilling, recruiting, and retention strategies. • Support creation of human capital roadmaps, incorporating change management and performance metrics. • Contribute to organizational alignment and enterprise engagement assessments. • Prepare executive-ready deliverables, including reports, presentations, and data visualizations. • Collaborate with Project Manager and junior staff to deliver work on time and within scope.
