Role Description The Sustaining Engineer, Mechanical at Hyper Solutions is responsible for the ongoing mechanical engineering ownership, support, and continuous improvement of the company's released product portfolio. This role focuses on maintaining the reliability, manufacturability, quality, and performance of Hyper's power distribution equipment throughout the product lifecycle while supporting a rapidly growing manufacturing organization. Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Support, and Product Engineering, the Sustaining Engineer provides hands-on engineering support for production and field issues, executes engineering changes, and drives continuous improvements that enhance product quality, serviceability, and cost. This position is well-suited for a mechanical engineer who enjoys solving real-world manufacturing and product challenges, collaborating across functions, and improving products already in production. Core Responsibilities - Provide hands-on mechanical engineering support for released products throughout their lifecycle - Execute Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for mechanical design updates - Drive continuous improvements in product reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost - Update and maintain mechanical bills of material (BOMs), 3D models, fabrication drawings, and assembly documentation - Support New Product Introduction (NPI) transitions into production from a design-for-manufacturing perspective - Resolve production issues involving enclosures, sheet metal, weldments, fasteners, and mechanical fit and tolerance - Conduct GD&T reviews, tolerance stack-up analyses, and fit evaluations to prevent recurring assembly issues - Support root cause investigations for mechanical nonconformances, assembly defects, and field failures - Evaluate component substitutions, supplier-driven design changes, and material obsolescence Additional Responsibilities - Partner with field service teams and customers to diagnose mechanical issues involving structural integrity, thermal performance, accessibility, and mounting - Support warranty investigations and mechanical reliability improvement initiatives - Ensure continued compliance with applicable UL standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements - Support product certifications, audits, and regulatory compliance activities - Apply structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Ishikawa analysis - Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Engineering and Manufacturing Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline - 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience within a manufacturing environment - Experience supporting released products through sustaining, product, or manufacturing engineering - Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software - Experience creating fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation - Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, sheet metal design, and fabrication processes - Understanding of engineering change management (ECRs, ECOs) and document control - Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions - Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings - Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications - Experience supporting power distribution equipment, electrical enclosures, switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, or switchgear - Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, weldments, and powder coating processes - Knowledge of UL 891, UL 67, or similar electrical product standards - Experience supporting products within data center, mission-critical infrastructure, or industrial electrical industries - Experience with ERP and PLM systems such as NetSuite, Arena, or similar platforms - Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement training or certifications - Familiarity with electrical schematics What Success Looks Like - Released products remain reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective throughout their lifecycle - Engineering changes are implemented accurately and efficiently with minimal disruption to production - Mechanical production and field issues are resolved quickly through effective root cause analysis - Continuous improvements enhance product quality, manufacturability, serviceability, and customer satisfaction - Strong collaboration across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Customer Support drives timely issue resolution - Products continue to meet UL, customer, and internal quality requirements Location Onsite in Richmond, VA, or remote, depending on candidate location and business needs. Compensation The anticipated hiring range for this role is $80,000–$110,000 per year. Actual salary may vary based on factors including experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on factors such as individual and organizational performance. Role Description - Responsible for working with fellow mechanical engineering team members for project execution support. - Perform mechanical engineering tasks and calculations for oil and gas projects inclusive of: - Pipe sizing and pressure loss calculations - Create piping specifications and CAD files in CADWorx - P&IDs creation and review - Engineering evaluations - Review & preparation of line lists & equipment lists - Perform basic CADD drafting - Review of bill of materials (BOM) - Duties also include preparing of equipment data sheets, equipment specifications, equipment design and development, updating and maintaining construction documents, preparing and reviewing MRQs / RFQs. - Interpret and review Models, piping plans, piping sections and piping isometrics. - Identify, interpret and apply relevant codes and standards to engineering designs. - Ability to interact with all levels of staff including senior management, clients, and other disciplines. - Ability to travel to support field work activities periodically (including site commissioning). - Ability to analyze, define, and solve problems. - Ability to prioritize workflow, multitask, meet deadlines, and remain flexible. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent international engineering degree required (e.g. Ingenieria Mecánica). - Experience with common O&G facilities including: compressor stations, liquid and gas storage, tank batteries, plant and metering facilities. - Ideally 5+ years of experience in oil and gas or closely related industry. - Professional proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional and project-based environment. - Experience supporting U.S. based companies and projects remotely.
