Bilingual Senior Commercial Lawyer

TransUnion

Role Description With limited guidance, the Bilingual Senior Commercial Lawyer provides legal services to TransUnion Canada ensuring that business practices, policies and dealings of the corporation meet regulatory requirements and that its operations are within the scope established by law, inclusive of PIPEDA and consumer reporting legislation. - Provides counsel and legal support to business units on a variety of complex legal matters. - Acts as counsel to the company in all contractual matters requiring legal review and assistance. - Provides prompt and practical advice to senior management on complex contractual matters involving the transfer of personal information and/or technology. - Reviews and drafts complex commercial contracts, certificates, and related documents. - Represents the company in contract negotiations. - Keeps abreast of current legislative developments impacting company operations. - Works with other departments on commercial matters, corporate risk analysis, and other matters as appropriate. - Provides formal and informal training for internal clients (sales meeting presentations, operations, one-on-one discussions). - Maintains and develops positive and professional working relationships with members of the legal team, internal and external clients, and management. - Ensures Director, Legal is fully briefed on major issues that arise in relevant business areas. - Provides support to team initiatives. Qualifications - J.D. or LLB from a recognized law school and a member in good standing of a law society in any Canadian province. - Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a lawyer. - Bilingual (English and French). - Knowledge and understanding of administrative law, consumer reporting legislation, privacy legislation, litigation, and general corporate commercial knowledge. - Ability to work in a team environment and interact at all levels of the organization. - Strong organizational and advocacy skills. - Ability to support multiple, complex, and often conflicting and quickly changing priorities. - Strong analytic and problem-solving skills. - Technologically adept and proficient with the tools of the profession. - Strong negotiation skills. Requirements - This position requires some travel.
