Department Summary The University of North Texas Asset Management department plays a critical role in supporting the university’s operational efficiency and compliance. Our team is responsible for managing the complete lifecycle of State of Texas defined assets, including both controlled and capital assets, ensuring accountability and stewardship of university resources. Our services begin with the receipt of goods, both asset and non-asset items, and include accurate verification and distribution to designated campus locations. We maintain rigorous inventory control processes, conduct annual physical inventory audits, and ensure compliance with state and university policies. Asset Management also oversees the end-of-life process for university property, coordinating the proper disposition of surplus items in accordance with regulatory requirements. Through these efforts, we help maximize resource utilization and support sustainability initiatives. The department reports directly to the UNT Budget Office and works collaboratively with departments across campus to provide guidance, transparency, and support in asset-related matters. Position Overview This position is responsible for monitoring capital and controlled assets of the organization. It is their duty to monitor and report status of these assets from purchasing through disposal/sale/transfer. Will work collaboratively with UNT Controller Office, Asset Management, and University Budget Office. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of accepted accounting practices, legal statutes, and policy and procedure affecting financial record keeping. Thorough knowledge of cost and audit accounting. Ability to work accurately with numerical detail consistently and to perform accounting operations legibly. Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form. Demonstrated ability in coordinating and supervising the work of others. Preferred Qualifications - PeopleSoft EIS experience - Working knowledge of State of Texas comptroller's SPA processes - Advanced Excel user Required License/Registration/Certifications Job Duties - Responsible for approving capital and controlled equipment purchases, maintaining asset information in PeopleSoft, and completing necessary paperwork related to transfers and or disposal of assets. - Expected to assist the Asset Management supervisor with inventory audits, reviewing asset custodian information periodically, and safekeeping of UNT vehicle titles. - Assist departmental inventory coordinators with the annual inventory process and provide a positive customer experience each time. - Responsible for cash handling controls related to surplus sales, reconciling revenue and sales tax liability related to sales, and maintaining procedures for job duties. - Screen budget authorization forms for accuracy, validity and compliance with established procedures for managing those funds. - Prepares accounting transactions, maintains files, routes completed documents for authorization to the proper administrative and departmental offices. - Processes ABAs and overrides in a timely manner and ensures funding is transferred to appropriate categories. - Screens Electronic Personnel Action Reports (ePARs) for validity, procedural integrity and budgetary impact before approval.
