Location: Czech Republic , Poland , Romania , Ukraine Cooperation: Remote As a Technical Designer, you will join our team supporting an established, critically acclaimed real-time strategy franchise as it grows through new downloadable content and ongoing live updates. In this role, you will bridge design and technology by prototyping, scripting, and implementing the gameplay systems, units, and mechanics that bring large-scale, faction-driven battles and campaign play to life within a mature proprietary engine. This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced designer who thrives in a live-service environment, understands the technical underpinnings of complex strategy systems, and can collaborate across disciplines to deliver new content while maintaining and improving existing features. Acting as a mediator between Game Design and Engineering, you will help flesh out features and the technology behind them, translating creative intent into technically sound, achievable solutions. Superpowers you have: - 5+ years of experience in Game Design roles, with a strong focus on technical implementation or systems design for AA/AAA PC titles. At least one shipped strategy, simulation, or systems-driven title with ownership of gameplay systems, units, or scripted mechanics. - Proven ability to work within a proprietary or in-house engine, including scripting and data-driven content workflows. - Strong understanding of real-time strategy systems, such as unit behaviour, combat resolution, AI, abilities, and campaign mechanics. - Experience designing and implementing tools, scripts, or workflows that streamline content creation and team productivity. - Solid grasp of gameplay balance, player feedback loops, and clarity in systemic gameplay — especially in a live, post-launch context. - Excellent cross-disciplinary communication skills, with the ability to clearly express design and technical goals. - Proven ability to act as a bridge between Game Design and Engineering, translating creative intent into technically sound, achievable solutions. - Experience collaborating closely with engineers to flesh out features and the technology behind them. You’re a rockstar if you have: - Experience working on DLC, expansions, or live-service content for an established title. - Background in real-time strategy, grand strategy, or simulation gameplay. - Familiarity with AI and behaviour systems, ability/spell design, or large-scale battle systems. - Comfort working with data-driven design and engine scripting languages to extend core functionality. - Experience optimising content for performance and stability across a wide range of PC hardware. - Proactive mindset with a strong eye for polish and technical detail. Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will: - Design, prototype, implement, and refine gameplay systems, units, mechanics, and scripted content within the project’s engine and tools. - Own technical design tasks from concept through final polish, ensuring systems are scalable, data-driven, and performant. - Collaborate with Game Designers, Engineers, and Artists to implement units, abilities, AI behaviours, combat resolution, and campaign features. - Script and author content, systemic interactions, and gameplay features in-engine for new DLC and ongoing updates. - Ensure gameplay systems are intuitive, responsive, and well-balanced across factions, units, and difficulty levels. - Support live operations by investigating issues, tuning balance, and delivering fixes and improvements across patches. - Participate in playtests and feedback loops, iterating to raise clarity, performance, and polish. - Produce clear and thorough technical design documentation. - Mentor junior and mid-level designers in design principles, engine workflows, and scripting. - Act as a mediator between Game Design and Engineering, helping flesh out features and the underlying technology and aligning creative intent with technical feasibility. - Contribute to campaign AI design and implementation. Join the team of inspiring game dev professionals, and get even more: - Competitive financial reward (yes, we are fair enough); - Challenges to raise your XPs score working on the projects of the top global game dev publishers; - Private medical care, paid time off; - A culture of diversity and inclusion to unite the most outstanding talents; - Community of people who understand and share your passion for games.
