Associate House Counsel
Celina Insurance Group
• Handle all aspects of insurance-related litigation. • Defend policyholders and assert the company’s interests. • Evaluate settlement options. • Engage in trial court proceedings, arbitration hearings, and mediation sessions. • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Claims and Claim Managers to evaluate cases for settlement. • Prepare timely responses to complaints and other legal pleadings. • Attend pretrial hearings, trials, and settlement conferences. • Conduct depositions and manage other discovery processes. • Provide recommendations for additional claim investigations. • Keep the claims department informed of critical case law decisions. • Assist in building our Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. • Maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.
Job Requirements
- General knowledge and skill level of a practicing trial attorney.
- Proficiency with modern Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to learn and understand insurance policy conditions and provisions.
- Familiarity with settlement values within the assigned territory.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy or willingness to learn.
- Prefer admitted practicing law in Ohio and Indiana or willing to attain reciprocity for either state.
- Appropriate licenses to practice before boards, state and federal courts preferred.
- Must reside in Ohio or Indiana.
- Maintain required continuing legal education credits.
- Property & Casualty Insurance experience preferred.
- Three to five years of law practice is preferred.

• Provide strategic legal counsel on matters of significant organizational impact • Independently manage and execute litigation strategy for employment disputes • Oversee collaboration with outside counsel • Lead internal investigations regarding workplace issues • Draft and review employment-related agreements and policies • Serve as primary legal advisor to Human Resources and business leadership

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including MSAs, SOWs, vendor agreements, partner agreements, and NDAs. • Build and maintain contract templates and playbooks that let the business move faster with less risk. • Partner directly with Sales, Partnerships, and Procurement to close deals efficiently without compromising Tapcheck's positions. • Advise on regulatory questions that arise as Tapcheck expands its product lines and enters new markets. • Help mature Tapcheck's multi-state regulatory compliance program as the business scales. • Facilitate and help manage relationships with examiners and regulators across the states where Tapcheck operates. • Support the development and upkeep of compliance policies, processes, and training as the business grows. • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and flag issues that could affect Tapcheck's products or operations. • Provide practical, business-minded legal counsel across a broad range of matters as they arise — this role is built for variety, not a narrow lane. • Assist with employment law matters as they come up, partnering with People/HR and outside counsel as needed. • Support corporate governance matters. • Manage outside counsel at top-tier national law firms that currently support Tapcheck's growth. • Help build the internal processes, templates, and know-how that let a two-person Legal team support a fast-growing company. • Serve as a trusted, responsive legal partner to teams across the business, including Product, Engineering, Sales, Support, and Finance. • Translate legal risk into clear, practical guidance that helps teams move forward with confidence. • Work closely with the General Counsel on the matters that need it, while owning your own docket day-to-day.
