Claims Consultant – Veterans Disability Appeals
Allsup
• Review and prepare a summary of the veteran’s claims file which includes past and present VA decisions. • Analyze medical evidence. • Review VA law and regulations. • Determine any error of law administered by the Regional Office and/or Veteran Law Judge in order to compose the brief. • Review medical records, applications on file, and the claim’s agent medical development profile. • Select appropriate disability benefit questionnaires and sends to the appropriate provider based upon the claimant’s medical conditions. • Assist claimants with drafting lay statements; drafting independent medical opinion request letters and case summaries for medical consultants. • Identify and send correct VA disability benefit questionnaires. • Process work in a timely and accurate manner. • Maintain technical knowledge of all VA programs and procedures. • Mentor peers and support staff.
Job Requirements
- Requires Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to learn and apply technical instructions.
- Minimum of two years of Veteran's disability claims handling responsibilities and experience.
- Professional oral/telephone communication skills.
- Superior organizational skills.
- High level of initiative.
- Excellent knowledge of Word and Excel.

Role Description As the new Clinical Grievances Nurse, you will be responsible for reviewing incoming member cases to determine if the appropriate care was given. This role is a fully remote position but must be located in PST, MST, CST or AZ and able to work Monday-Friday 8A-5P within their time zone. Primary Responsibilities: - Perform clinical assessment of healthcare services provided to our members for appropriateness. - Understand relevant state and federal grievance and peer review requirements and accreditation standards applicable for processes supported. - Facilitate telephonic discussion with health care providers and/or members to obtain additional clinical information. - Provide timely, quality service to members and providers while upholding UnitedHealthcare culture values. - Act as a resource for others with less experience. - Work independently and collaborating with Medical Directors and non-clinical partners. - Function as a member of a self-directed team to meet specific individual and team performance metrics. - Manage and maintain quality and productivity metrics.
