Job Description
Development Manager
Jane
Role Description Hi, I'm Nakisa, Director of Engineering at Jane. I've been at Jane for just under three years, and I currently lead our Billing and Clinical Engineering group. Before Jane, I led engineering teams at Brex, Atlassian, and CA Technologies, and across all of those experiences one thing has stayed constant - I care deeply about building cohesive, high performing teams that solve meaningful problems for customers. I'm looking for a Development Manager to lead our Payroll & Compensation team - a strategic space where we're bringing payroll and compensation workflows directly into Jane so clinics can run more of their business in one place. It's a high-trust domain with a high bar for reliability and security, which makes it both a meaningful challenge and a place where thoughtful engineering leadership really matters. You'll lead a team of experienced engineers and partner closely in a triad with Product and Design. There is both mature product to support and evolve, and new discovery work to lead through ambiguity. What makes this role especially meaningful is the balance - you'll be thinking strategically about where we're heading over the next year, while also ensuring we're delivering high quality outcomes today. You'll have the opportunity to influence beyond your team, raise the bar for engineering leadership at Jane, and help us thoughtfully productize emerging capabilities, including AI. If you're motivated by building empowered teams, navigating complexity with clarity, and delivering real impact for customers, I'd love to meet you. Qualifications - 3+ years of engineering management experience, including leading senior engineers and owning complex technical domains or multiple teams. - Strong technical depth with the ability to engage in architectural discussions, coach on engineering best practices, and confidently represent technical tradeoffs in cross functional forums. - Experience operating in a fast paced, high growth SaaS environment where you've balanced strategic planning with hands on delivery and execution. - Demonstrated success partnering closely with Product and Design in a triad model, including advocating for technical investments and translating engineering work into customer impact. - Experience navigating ambiguity, driving change, and building empowered, accountable team cultures. - Exposure to payments, fintech, payroll, or other regulated, trust-critical domains - along with third-party platform integrations or AI driven products - is a strong asset. Requirements - Build and grow a high performing, senior team by creating clarity, fostering accountability, and developing engineers at every level - including Staff and Senior ICs - through thoughtful coaching and direct feedback. - Lead your team to consistently deliver meaningful customer outcomes across Jane Payroll and compensation workflows, balancing new product investment with technical health, operational excellence, and long term sustainability. - Uphold a high bar for reliability, security, and trust in a domain that handles real money movement, sensitive staff data, and tax and compliance expectations - treating payroll as the Tier 0 system it's becoming. - Show up as a strong triad partner by collaborating deeply with Product and Design, constructively challenging ideas when needed, and aligning on clear success metrics that connect technical decisions to customer impact. - Bring systems thinking to complex problem spaces by anticipating upstream and downstream impacts, managing change thoughtfully across Jane and our payroll infrastructure partner, and influencing across teams to de-risk delivery. - Champion pragmatic and responsible AI adoption within your team by exploring opportunities to improve how we build and how our customers experience Jane, while maintaining a high bar for quality, security, and real world value. Benefits - Annual salary range of $158,400 to $247,500, reflecting the full growth journey someone might take in the role. - Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, which for this role represents an annual salary of $188,100. - Regular career development conversations with your manager, with compensation growth as you gain experience and contribute meaningfully to our mission. - Clear compensation fundamentals with transparency in salary bands. - Comprehensive benefits package. Company Description Jane is a founder-led, high-growth SaaS company born in North Vancouver, British Columbia. We're now a team of more than 700 people working remotely across Canada, the US, and the UK, united by our mission to help the helpers. We build the products and tools that thousands of clinics rely on every day to run their businesses, care for their patients, and grow their communities. That level of impact means every person at Jane plays an important role in how we show up for our customers. Jane is growing fast, and that growth brings exciting challenges that call for adaptability, resilience, learning agility, and humility. We're proud of what we've built and quick to admit what we don't know yet. We listen, learn, and adjust as we go. We're also embracing the possibilities of AI, using it to work smarter, improve our systems, and create even better experiences for our customers and our team. Our goal isn't just delivery, it's delight. We move quickly, communicate openly, and solve real problems together. If you're energized by ambiguity, motivated by impact, and eager to learn with others, you'll thrive at Jane.
