Technical Writer

Planned Systems International

• Perform a technical edit for quality assurance on all documentation prior to delivery to the customer. • Create and implement consistent writing templates and documentation styles for all technical publications. • Collaborate with subject matter experts when creating user guides, process documentation, new templates, template updates, and presentations to understand project specifications and needs. • Analyze team processes to ensure efficiency and that all aspects of the process are documented. • Ensure technical documentation is complete and accurate. • Combine, edit, format, and finalize the monthly progress report. • Participate in the review process. • Create, edit, and maintain training material, brown bags, and instructional supplements to ensure processes are understood as well as review all documentation and training materials to keep them up to date. • Provide a high level of customer service by adopting the customer’s mission and working towards success. • Transcribe Meeting Minutes from recordings.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field.
  • Equivalent experience or industry certifications may substitute for formal education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field and 5+ years of Technical Writing/Communications experience in IT or Software development industries (or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience).
  • Interview SME's to gather technical details
  • Creating technical manuals and quick reference guides
  • Using accepted style manuals, such as the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), the Microsoft Manual of Style, and VA style preferences
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Teams, SharePoint, and CoPilot
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Expertise writing/editing/proofreading at all levels, and willingness to do whatever’s needed.
  • Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas.
  • Ability to revise one’s own work or the work of others to make documents or presentations clearer and more persuasive.
  • Convey complex information in appropriate fashion to audiences with different levels of knowledge.
  • Work in both a team environment and independently.
  • Coach and mentor other technical writers.
  • Work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment.
  • Working with AI tools to improve communications.
