Role Description The Senior Underwriter plays a critical role in evaluating and processing loan applications, assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers and ensuring compliance with lending guidelines. Utilizing financial analysis and risk assessment, the Underwriter will make informed decisions to maintain a high-quality mortgage portfolio and facilitate responsible lending practices. Your Responsibilities on the Team: - Conduct risk analysis and review loans for compliance with agency and investor guidelines. - Render decisions within the department's service level agreement (SLA). Meet productivity and quality standards, averaging 6 decisions per day for new loans and resubmissions. - Utilize automated underwriting systems (Encompass, LPA, Desktop Underwriter) to assess risk, salability, and reduced documentation for borrowers. Ensure accurate data input and support automated decision-making. - Apply manual underwriting requirements in decision-making for loans without automated approval. - Clearly and concisely condition loans appropriately when rendering decisions. - Provide expertise and coaching to processing and production staff on training issues and automated underwriting systems. Keep management informed of specific ongoing issues that require immediate attention. Qualifications - High school Diploma or Equivalent - VA Automatic and DE Designation - LAPP SAR designation - Minimum of 5 years in mortgage industry to include 3 years of frontline underwriting of FHA/VA/Conventional loans - 2+ years of experience in mortgage software - Proficient in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) - Purchase transaction, specifically new construction experience preferred - Self-starter and able to work independently - Exceptional organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. - A genuine passion for delivering exceptional experiences to customers.
