DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking a Associate Underwriter Windstorm Risk Classification: Full-Time Division: Windstorm Risk Salary: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 Travel: 0-10% Work Environment: Hybrid Location: Atlanta, GA Role overview DUAL North America is seeking an Associate Underwriter for the Windstorm Risk division. At DUAL, Associate Underwriters play a key supportive role through the risk underwriting process. In this role, you will assist with account quoting and binding, prepare and distribute various types of communications, and provide quality customer service through the underwriting life cycle. Supporting a team of Underwriters within the Windstorm Risk division, you will assist in evaluating windstorm risk exposures, gathering data, and supporting the Role responsibilities - Process submissions by providing account triage for Underwriters - Provide backup support for Underwriters when traveling in the market - Gather and compile information required to quote and/or bind an account - Generate, edit, and send out a variety of correspondences on behalf of the Underwriters such as declination letters, quote follow ups and subjectivity reminders - Demonstrate basic understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk underwriting characteristics - Learn market dynamics, competitive landscape, and product differences - Attend weekly underwriting meetings if applicable, ask questions - need to understand what business is selling and understanding why deals are lost and adjusting accordingly - Provide customer service and underwriting support to help achieve team new and renewal premium goals Key requirements - Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business or a related field preferred - 0-1 year underwriting or insurance experience - Foundational knowledge of insurance principles - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) - Ability to follow policies and procedures - Complete assigned tasks correctly, on time and able to learn quickly - Self-motivated and demonstrating attention to detail - Be able to work independently for extended periods - Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as general business understanding - Travel up to 10% with an Underwriter to shadow and participate in interactions between Underwriters and brokers - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, with occasional movement in the office to access cabinets and equipment - If you do not meet all the qualifications for this role, we still encourage you to apply, as we are always looking for diverse talent to join our growing team. Essential Functions: - Underwrites accounts within an assigned underwriting authority level, and services existing bond accounts, including analysis of financial statements, work in progress reports, and overall credit worthiness. - Gathers necessary information to make a decision on whether to approve or decline a bond request. - Maintains current account files and visits accounts as needed. - Serves as a technical expert to other bond underwriters, including assisting with training, on the underwriting process and best practices in marketing to existing and new agencies. - Creates new and grows existing agency relationships. Meets with agents, contractors, clients, prospective and existing project owners, etc. - Educates agents on the bond philosophy and services EMC provides its customers. Markets services to agents. - Participates in industry functions, meetings, and seminars to network and increase knowledge on surety and fidelity issues. - Communicates with agents proactively and anticipates agents and insured’s needs. - Plans and participates in events to establish new agency relationships and drive profitable growth opportunities for the department. - Identifies opportunities and eliminates potential barriers within agency relationships. - Underwrites new account submissions within an assigned underwriting authority level. - Analyzes and evaluates new submissions including financial statements, work in progress reports, and overall credit worthiness. - Sets up new account files and performs frequent agent and account visits. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or business, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience. - Six years of experience with bond underwriting, or related experience. - Associate in Fidelity and Surely Bonding (AFSB) designation preferred. Requirements - Excellent bond underwriting knowledge. - Excellent analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills. - Excellent multitasking and organization skills. - Strong human relations skills, including written and verbal communication. - Good keyboarding skills and computer knowledge including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. - Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently. - Travel required; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving. Benefits - The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $92,670 - $128,045 or $102,443 - $140,845. - A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range.
