Role Description Our Personal Lines division is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Underwriter to join our team. This role is open to remote and is a full-time, exempt position. This role is crucial in helping our agents find tailored solutions, focusing on High Value accounts and customers with complex insurance needs. This position encompasses all lines of business for these clients. In this role you will: - Work within the highest level of authority for front line underwriters, using it responsibly showing financial discipline and alignment with the overall goals of the organization. - Anticipate audience needs when communicating, actively seek to understand when there is a lack of clarity, and clearly articulate and express points of view and perspectives both verbally and in writing. - Apply logic to decisions, identifying and evaluating risks and implications, using current data and information to inform recommended decisions and actions. - Work in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment, able to shift focus and manage new and changing situations. - Seek opportunities to share information and offer ideas that will allow others to benefit or succeed, showing respect for differences and diversity in ideas and views. - Collaborate with State Management, Product, Operations, Actuarial, and Underwriting Strategy teams to execute company initiatives and goals. - Manage an assigned book of business by adhering to individual underwriting authority, service level requirements, underwriting quality expectations, new business and retention goals, and maintaining a profitable book aligned with division goals. - Handle complex and escalated underwriting matters, leveraging expertise to create solutions that meet customer needs. - Respond to agent inquiries within required service levels, including new business submissions, phone calls, and emails, and respond quickly to peers and junior underwriters. - Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, providing counsel and guidance on the High Value segment and completing necessary agency travel to nurture relationships. - Partner with agents to actively prospect, solicit, and underwrite new High Value accounts to achieve profitable growth aligned with company objectives, state and territory goals. - Monitor market trends to inform underwriting decisions and strategies. - Continuously develop knowledge of the insurance market. - Lead high-priority presentations and trainings, and mentor junior underwriters, providing guidance on complex cases. - Handle referrals from underwriters with lower authority. - Interact with claims and legal teams regarding large losses and participate in claims and legal roundtables. - Manage and grow assigned territory to achieve profitable results through new business development and disciplined underwriting practices. - Take personal ownership for the management of workload and output amongst assigned agents, applying understanding of business workflows and processes to determine focus and urgency needed. - Effectively negotiate with agents on exceptions and recommend mitigation efforts to make the requested exception more palatable or in line with our underwriting strategy. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree. - Minimum of 5 years of PL high value underwriting or high value sales experience. - CPCU, CIC, CPRIA or related insurance designations preferred. - Ability to work in a fast-paced or stressful environment. - Strong team collaboration skills and strong communication skills. - Travel: 25%-35% agency travel required (both in-person and virtual).
