Role Description This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group). - Course: HAVC 1Q98 Introduction to Visual Culture - Overview: - Visual culture, its vocabulary, technologies, and structures within varied cultural contexts. - Problems of meaning and functions of visual culture in contemporary society. - The role of galleries and museums. - The impact of imagery in advertising, popular media, and consumer culture. - Contemporary critical methodology. - Department: Department of Visual Art – History of Art and Visual Culture - Schedule: Winter Term (Duration 3), Wednesday and Friday 1330 – 1500 - Delivery Method: - SYNCH - A fully online synchronous course delivered remotely through audio and video conferencing. - 80% or more of the content is delivered in this way, with occasional face-to-face meetings, proctored exams, etc. - Compensation: - Effective September 1, 2026 - $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally) - Effective September 1, 2026 - $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally) Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course. Qualifications - PhD in Art History is required. - Previous university teaching experience in Art History is required. - A record of professional research or curatorial work in the field of Art History is required (e.g. publications, conference presentations, exhibitions). - Technological expertise and familiarity with Brightspace, the LMS through which this course will be offered. - Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level in the area to be taught (e.g. course evaluations, letters of reference, and/or other components of teaching dossier) is required.
