Job Description

Litigation Counsel

SunStrong Management

• Handle day-to-day management of matters through all phases of litigation and arbitration, including early case assessment, fact development, discovery, motion practice, settlement discussions, hearing and trial preparation, and appeals • Respond to attorney demand letters, subpoenas, consumer complaints, regulatory inquiries, and government investigations, as appropriate • Assess legal and business risk and provide practical, solutions-oriented advice to internal stakeholders • Identify recurring dispute themes and work with the Head of Litigation and business teams to help reduce future claims and improve outcomes • Support the continued development of scalable litigation management processes and tools • Help create and maintain playbooks, templates, workflows, and matter tracking protocols to improve consistency and efficiency • Contribute to reporting on litigation exposure, matter status, spend, and trends for internal stakeholders • Help improve how disputes and legal risks are tracked, escalated, and communicated internally • Translate litigation developments into clear, practical guidance for business stakeholders • Help analyze dispute trends and resolution data to support decision-making and resource allocation • Support adoption of technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools that improve litigation operations • Monitor outside counsel’s performance and help ensure matters are handled efficiently and in line with SunStrong’s objectives • Help set expectations regarding strategy, staffing, budgets, reporting, and timelines • Review invoices, budgets, and case updates to support effective legal spending management

Job Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one state bar
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, with meaningful responsibility for managing disputes and case strategy
  • Experience handling a wide range of litigation or arbitration matters, ideally with significant experience with consumer issues
  • Experience responding to regulator inquiries
  • Ability to assess legal issues thoughtfully and provide practical, business-oriented advice
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
