Position in this function provides guidance and assistance to patients regarding insurance coverage, free care and payment plans. Reviews pending collection accounts. Compiles accounts for transfers to the collection agency. Completes yearly state required Abandoned Property refunds or transferring account credits over to the State. This position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. We offer 4 to 12 weeks of paid training. The hours of the training will be aligned with your schedule. Primary Responsibilities: - Obtains payment in full or secures adequate payment arrangements and/or eligibility information from patients. Advises patient on expenses. Secures payments or payment arrangements on verified accounts. Discusses third party coverage with patient and arranges payments for balances due. Informs patient of payment requirements - Advises patients or others as to their financial liability. Interfaces in person or by phone to identify any financial concerns. Reviews self-pay accounts. Monitors accounts following standard procedure - Determines payment sources or agency eligibility for all referred accounts. Monitors patient financial history to determine appropriate adjustments - Identifies indigent patients and arranges for reimbursement from appropriate government agency. Maintains a working knowledge of grants, funds and other resources available for qualified accounts. Ensures that accounts using such resources meet the standard qualification. Required Qualifications: - High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience - Must be 18 years of age OR older - 1+ years of customer service experience - Ability to work full-time, Monday - Friday. The Behavioral Intake Counselor (BIC) is a position for the County of San Diego's 24/7 Access and Crisis Line (ACL) which provides free, confidential access to behavioral health services and crisis intervention for the 3.3 million San Diegans.
