Specialist - Software Engineering

LTM

Role Description We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team focusing on building and managing mission-critical WordPress plugins and custom solutions for our editorial newsroom workflows. The ideal candidate not only possesses expert-level WordPress and engineering skills but also proactively leverages AI tools and principles to enhance the entire software development lifecycle, driving velocity, code quality, and technical documentation. Key Responsibilities - Architect, develop, and maintain custom Gutenberg plugins and React editor components specifically tailored for enterprise-level newsroom and content workflows. - Design and implement performant API endpoints and optimize database queries for high-traffic media platforms. - Participate comprehensively in the SDLC contributing to architectural discussions, coding, and comprehensive peer reviews. - Proactively integrate and leverage AI-enabled workflows (e.g., in testing, refactoring, and documentation) to accelerate development and ensure code maintainability. - Ensure that all code is well-documented, adhering to enterprise standards, and leave the codebase better than it was found. - Collaborate with product and editorial teams to translate complex business needs into production-ready technical specifications. - Champion best practices in testing (unit, integration, E2E), CICD, and performance engineering. Qualifications - WordPress Expertise: Advanced knowledge of the WordPress Gutenberg block editor, the WordPress hook system, and the REST API. - Core Languages/Frameworks: Advanced proficiency in PHP, JavaScript ES6, and React for complex editor state management. - Custom Development: Extensive experience with custom WordPress plugin and block development. - Performance APIs: Proven experience writing custom API endpoints and optimizing queries for performance. - AI Integration Understanding: Demonstrated ability to proactively use and integrate AI tools (e.g., GitHub CoPilot, specialized models for contextual refactoring, test scaffolding, documentation generation, and other elements of the development lifecycle). - Tooling: Experience using dependency management tools like Composer and NPM/Yarn. Requirements - Experience with advanced AI concepts like Prompt Engineering and AI integration within CMS platforms. - Proficiency in unit, integration, and E2E testing (e.g., Jest, PHPUnit, Cypress, Playwright). - Understanding of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), vector databases, and how to minimize hallucinations and latency when building AI-driven editorial tools. - Experience working with headless WordPress architectures. - Familiarity with CICD systems such as Jenkins, CircleCI, or GitHub Actions. - Past contributions to open-source software projects. Key Attributes - Proactively uses AI tools to enhance delivery cycles and overall engineering quality, treating AI as a primary partner in the development lifecycle to move from concept to production at a high velocity. - Possesses a "build it, own it" mindset; instead of tossing features to QA to find bugs, they proactively test their own work. - Identifies technical risks, proposes architectural improvements, and offers technical recommendations that enhance product stability and user experience. - Eager to become involved in all aspects of the development lifecycle from planning and architecture to coding and peer review. - Leaves a codebase better documented than they found it. - Is a strong communicator able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to audiences of varying technical knowledge.
