Power System Engineer

Role Description We are seeking a Power Systems Engineer to provide engineering analysis and technical support for the reliable integration of new generation resources into the electric power system. This role supports generation interconnection activities, system planning studies, and compliance with applicable industry reliability standards, market rules, and technical requirements. - Perform electrical engineering studies and technical analyses related to generation interconnection and long-term power system planning. - Conduct power flow studies to evaluate the feasibility and impacts of proposed generation interconnections. - Analyze simulation results and compare findings with actual system operating data to verify compliance with applicable reliability and planning standards. - Review generation interconnection applications and supporting documentation to ensure adherence to established technical requirements, planning criteria, and operating protocols. - Develop and maintain system models, study methodologies, analytical tools, and engineering procedures. - Identify opportunities to improve interconnection study processes, data management practices, and stakeholder communications. - Communicate technical requirements, study assumptions, results, and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders. - Track project milestones throughout the interconnection lifecycle, from study initiation through commercial operation. - Prepare technical reports and documentation summarizing engineering analyses, conclusions, and recommendations. - Support the evaluation of current and future system issues and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies. Qualifications - Experience within the electric utility, transmission, generation, or power systems industry. - Experience performing power system load flow studies using PSSE. - Experience conducting transfer capability and transmission system analyses. - Familiarity with power system planning, generation interconnection processes, and grid reliability requirements. - Experience with TARA or similar transmission assessment tools. - Programming experience using Python, VBA, or other scripting languages. - Experience developing database queries using Access, Oracle, SQL, or similar platforms. - Strong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare detailed engineering reports. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical concepts and requirements to diverse stakeholders. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. - Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience that provide comparable technical knowledge may be considered. Benefits - Pay rate: $50 - $60 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors).
