Job Description

Strategic Account Manager, Vancouver

Block

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointmnts, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale. Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same. The Role The Account Management organization is looking for a tenured account manager, consultant, or sales professional with experience managing high-value technical accounts to help retain and grow Square's presence in the enterprise space. You will work with top C-level executives and technical leaders, finding creative ways to make Square's ecosystem work in complex, global organizations. The ideal candidate will have worked in enterprise account management, business development, consulting, partnerships, sales or sales engineering and will be well-versed in working with and presenting to senior decision makers, including C-level executives, IT, finance and operations. They will have experience managing projects with multiple company partners on behalf of customers. Internally at Square, you will work in collaboration with product, engineering, finance, implementation, marketing, legal and sales to ensure successful establishment and growth of our customers. You Will: - Build partnerships and establish lasting, fruitful relationships with existing customers to retain and grow our presence within large organizations - Take full ownership of your managed book and oversee business prioritization, financial contract structuring, legal negotiations, technology strategy and ongoing account management - Discover challenges and aspiration with customers within your book and use Square's platform and product portfolio to grow their success through up-sell and cross-sell opportunities - Partner with sales colleagues to establish and grow newly on-boarded, high-value customers - Be the "voice of the seller" curating analysis of product performance from your managed book and provide relevant feedback to inform for product roadmap decision-making You have: - 5+ years experience in account management, business development, consulting, partnerships, sales or sales engineering focused on technical products - Experience achieving revenue metric goals - In-depth experience collaborating internally with partners on complex deals or partnerships - Experience requirements gathering with customers, building business cases for feature development with products teams, while balancing expectations for both parties - Formal sales methodology training - Experience supporting go-to-market efforts for new products Pay Transparency Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. Canada locations are categorized into one of two zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. 132,200-198,400 CAD Application Guidelines Candidates may submit up to 9 active applications within a 60-day period. Role Description We are looking for a Senior Counsel to join our legal team with a focus on complex commercial transactions. You will serve as the primary legal partner for business development and partnerships, owning the end-to-end negotiation of complex commercial agreements that underpin TRM's growth. This is a high-autonomy role that sits at the intersection of legal, product, and business strategy. You will work directly with senior business stakeholders and report into Assistant General Counsel. You are expected to operate independently, exercise sound judgment under ambiguity, and move quickly without sacrificing rigor. What You’ll Do - Lead negotiation of partnership agreements, data licensing agreements, and API access agreements with enterprise technology partners and other data integration partners. - Draft, review, and redline complex commercial contracts end-to-end, from term sheet through execution. - Partner closely with the business development/partnerships, product, and sales teams to structure deals that are legally sound and commercially viable. - Develop and maintain scalable contract templates, playbooks, and standard positions for partnership and commercial transactions. - Advise on data use, IP ownership, exclusivity, and liability frameworks in the context of data-sharing and integration partnerships. - Identify legal risks in proposed deal structures and recommend practical mitigations that preserve deal momentum. - Coordinate with outside counsel where appropriate on complex or high-value transactions. - Contribute to the development of TRM’s legal function as the company scales. Qualifications - J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar. - 6–8 years of legal experience, with significant exposure to commercial contract negotiation. Experience split between a top-tier law firm and in-house (technology company) is welcome. - Demonstrated expertise drafting and negotiating partnership agreements, licensing agreements, or similar complex commercial contracts. - Strong business judgment — you understand the deal economics, not just the legal terms. - Comfort with AI tooling and integration into workflows. - Ability to manage a high volume of matters simultaneously with minimal supervision. - Clear, direct communicator who can translate legal complexity for non-lawyer stakeholders. Requirements - Prior in-house experience at a technology company, ideally in a business development, partnerships, or commercial legal function. - Experience working directly on or alongside a business development team — you understand how deals are sourced, structured, and closed. - Exposure to data licensing, product integrations, or regulated technology products. - Familiarity with global data privacy frameworks (including GDPR, CCPA) as they intersect with commercial agreements. Benefits - Competitive compensation including salary, equity, and benefits. - A lean, high-trust legal team where you will have real ownership and visibility. - Work at the frontier of blockchain intelligence and financial crime prevention — problems that matter. - Flexible remote work.
