Field Engineer IV
Transaction Network Services (TNS)
• Perform telecommunications and data center site systems maintenance. • Maintain and operate specific communication, switch, network, and interface equipment to provide quality service. • Maximize availability to our external and internal customers. • Perform shipping / receiving, inventory control, and keep accurate site documentation. • Installs and deinstalls equipment into Data Center racks. • Replace hard drives, memory, and cards on server equipment. • Install and test cabling between network and server equipment. • Monitor and review network circuits and equipment. • Perform Layer 1, physical circuit reliability acceptance testing with the carrier and the customer to validate the quality of the transmission path to the users’ equipment. • Assist with Layer 2 & 3 tests; adhering to protocol standards to validate interoperability and interfacing requirements to connect the customers into the TNS Network. • Work independently with indirect supervision. • Provide verbal and written communication with other team members, departments, and customers to ensure successful completion of work and provide proper hand-offs. • Move and Lift a minimum of 50lbs into telco racks.
Job Requirements
- Has knowledge of commonly used network troubleshooting, installation, and testing concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrates experience in working concurrently on several easy to reasonably complex projects with limited guidance required.
- Demonstrates a strong ability to use independent judgment regularly in performance of job responsibilities.
- Has a basic understanding of telephony and financial service networks.
- Has a basic understanding of data center power configuration, including 3 phase power.
- Performs job well under pressure and manages time effectively.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Has a basic working knowledge of network circuitry, including both copper and fiber interfaces.
- Experience with dark fiber is a plus.
- Able to work well within a remote management.
- In-depth understanding of Best Practices for Cable Installation.
- Effectively communicates information verbally and in writing in a clear and coherent manner.
