About the Role As an Audiovisual (AV) Engineer at OpenAI you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing and ensuring the availability, reliability, and exceptional ease-of use of our conference room audio visual and video conferencing infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expert-level experience in audiovisual design, programming and implementation of enterprise AV systems and moderate but demonstrable networking and general IT capabilities. This is a hybrid role and will require 3 days a week in our San Francisco office. In this role, you will: - Develop, own, and continuously improve global conference room AV and video conferencing standards, with a focus on reliability, consistency, scalability, and five 9s availability. - Design and manage enterprise conference room standards, including room archetypes, approved hardware stacks, user experience requirements, control patterns, network requirements, and supportability expectations. - Produce and maintain standard AV drawing packages, design templates, build documentation, and release/revision cycles for global deployment. - Establish scalable systems and processes for managing the full AV technology lifecycle, including evaluation, standardization, deployment, support, refresh, and retirement. - Define design requirements and technical patterns for AV monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational handoff so global room standards can be supported, measured, and improved at scale. - Oversee AV control code, programming patterns, and network requirements to move from project-specific implementations to a first-party global standard deployed consistently across offices. - Lead AV/VC design standards and technical review for new global office buildouts, ensuring each project aligns with OpenAI’s global AV architecture and user experience goals. - Define programming, commissioning, QA, and operational handoff requirements for conference rooms and AV spaces. - Develop and manage integrations between AV systems and core IT services, including monitoring, alerting, asset management, ticketing, calendar systems, and support workflows. - Partner closely with ITAV Events, ITAV Upkeep, Network Engineering, Real Estate, Design and Construction, and Security to ensure AV standards meet business, operational, and technical needs. - Own lifecycle management for conference room AV/VC technology, including vendor roadmaps, firmware strategy, end-of-life planning, approved substitutions, and global refresh planning. - Maintain deep knowledge of AV/VC industry trends, emerging technologies, enterprise platform changes, and best practices for deploying AV at global scale. You might thrive in this role if you have: - 8+ years experience in design, installation, and troubleshooting of enterprise AV including direct experience implementing and using Google meet, Logitech and QSYS hardware at a global scale. - Experience with enterprise networking technologies and architectures (Multicast routing, switch configuration, QoS, IGMP). - Advanced QSYS programming experience. - Cloud hosting experience, especially for highly available AV services like monitoring and alerting, and distributed AV transport. - Proven experience managing global AV office deployments of over 300 av spaces. - Demonstrable CAD (Revit, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Visio) drawing package production experience. - Event space design and commissioning experience with production equipment like Vizrt, AnalogWay, Yamaha, Panasonic, QSYS, NDI, Dante Ross, ST2110, Madi, etc.. - AV Scripting experience (Lua, Appscript, Python). Bonus points for MCP integration experience. - Expert with video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Meet, Teams). - Experience developing RFPs (Request for Proposal) for AV integration vendors and managing the bid/build process. - Experience with wayfinding and conference room booking hardware and software. - Deep understanding of AV over IP (QLAN, ST 2110, Dante, NDI) and how to deploy it safely in a corporate network environment. - Experience with IT ticketing systems and maintaining support SLAs.
