Role Description As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for: - Technical Direction: Define the long-term architectural roadmap for our API services and backend infrastructure. - Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small but growing team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. - Product Collaboration: Work closely with the Product Management team to translate business requirements into robust, scalable technical features. - Quality & Stability: Partner with the QA team to squash complex bugs and maintain a high bar for system uptime and performance. - Release Management: Own the backend release cycle, overseeing weekly deployments to ensure seamless production rollouts. - Hands-on Development: Lead by example by contributing high-quality, production-ready code in TypeScript. - Security: Ensure the API implements security best practices to meet the standards of our many large regulated customers. - The Expert Programmer: You possess a profound understanding of TypeScript, including the nuances of the type system, decorators, and asynchronous patterns. - Cloud Native: Deep, granular knowledge of the AWS ecosystem following a serverless approach, proficient in architecting solutions using Lambda, ECS/Fargate, DynamoDB, API Gateway, and EventBridge. - Master Debugger: You have a "sixth sense" for finding bottlenecks and race conditions, comfortable diving into distributed tracing, logs, and memory heaps to solve complex problems. - Backend Specialist: Understanding of API design principles (REST) with a proven track record of building systems that handle a scaling platform. Qualifications - Academic Excellence: A BSc (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field from a top-tier global university. - Industry Excellence: A minimum of 4 years of experience at a world-class enterprise (e.g., FAANG, high-growth unicorn, or industry-leading tech firm). Role Description We are looking for a technically proficient Junior Game Programmer to join the Realityjam studio team as an apprentice, contributing to the development of MMO game, 5th Dimension. This is a fully remote, paid apprenticeship offering structured learning and direct involvement in shipping live multiplayer titles. You will work primarily in C# within Unity, contributing to gameplay systems, multiplayer logic, tooling, and engine integration across the 5th Dimension codebase. If you're not yet at the required experience level, our Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway offers a direct, mentored route into this role. Key Responsibilities - Develop and maintain gameplay systems and features in C# within the Unity engine. - Implement and debug multiplayer functionality using Unity's networking frameworks. - Work with the tech art and design teams to integrate assets and systems into the game pipeline. - Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in line with studio standards. - Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices across the team. - Identify and resolve bugs, performance issues, and technical debt as directed. - Engage with the apprenticeship programme's learning and assessment requirements. Qualifications - Minimum 2 years of documented commercial experience programming games in C# with Unity. - Demonstrable experience working within a commercial Unity development pipeline — this is mandatory. - Working knowledge of multiplayer game architecture and networking fundamentals. - Experience using version control systems such as Git or Plastic SCM within a team environment. - Right to work in the United Kingdom — applicants must hold this at the time of application. - Completion of the 5th Dimension demo on Steam prior to submitting your application. Desirable Skills - Experience with Unity Netcode for GameObjects, Mirror, or an equivalent multiplayer networking framework. - Familiarity with .NET and server-side game logic. - Experience working with Edgegap, Photon, or similar multiplayer hosting and relay infrastructure. - Understanding of performance profiling and optimisation techniques in Unity. - Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or automated testing in a games context. Remuneration & Working Hours - Base salary: £17,000 per annum. - Quarterly performance bonus: up to £5,000 per annum, giving potential annual earnings of up to £22,000. - Hours: 30 hours per week — Monday to Thursday, 10:00am to 6:00pm (GMT/BST). - Fully remote — work from anywhere in the United Kingdom. - Apprenticeship framework with structured learning and a direct pathway to a permanent role.
